Default My Sister has bad tastes...help!?

My 12 year old sister has a bad taste on everything. Let me start off with her music, she has a bad taste on music. She likes Justin Bieber and all artists and bands that are similar to him. One of the bands that I like from her is R5 because that band has a pretty blonde girl in it, but other than that I consider that band to be musically weak. I also like her Taylor Swift. She has a bad taste on shows. I can't keep track of all the shows that she watches but she likes to watch those shows where it is like a sitcom and a random teenager will say something and there is an automated laugh after that. I have a slight headache when I listen and sometimes catching a glance of those shows. My sister has bad taste on foods. I remember her eating a drumstick ice cream and she literally vomited the good part which is the chocolate. I can't believe it. Sometimes my Mom cooks bitter foods and she gobbled the bitter foods as if it's the best food ever. What's even worst is that I showed her some music that I like and she said she hated it. My jaw dropped open. Don't get me wrong other than R5 or the Jonas Brothers, I don't like the music these days. I am one of those people that believe that today's music is rubbish. I may have some bad taste on music because I enjoy listening to death metal screamo, where the guitars, bass, and drums are really complex. I also like nu - metal and I am into that. But I listen to almost any kind of rock. Other than that I believe the music in the 60s, 70s, and even the 50's was the golden age of music. I also listen to Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Debussy, Brahms, Schubert, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn, Liszt, and Vivaldi and I enjoy listening to jazz and I enjoy listening to the chords in gospel music. My question to you is that why does my sister has bad tastes on everything. Don't get me wrong, I love her because she is my one and only sister but man does she have bad tastes!

Barge into her room and play Carcass at full volume until she submits.

1. Download Merzbow's album 1930 and burn it to a CD.
2. Play it on the loudest stereo you can find when she's around.
3. Watch as her taste in music changes and the local women come rushing to your front door with loads of money.
4. ???
5. Profit!

(Don't force anyone to listen to anything if your only goal is to make someone have a similar taste in music. If she's interested in expanding her taste in music, let her do so on her own.)

wooow....Merzbow is the greatest artist in the world...ha, ha, ha...but I think Between the Buried and Me and The Beatles are a bit better. Anyways thanks for introducing me to this artist.

You can't really be that critical of your sister. I mean, down to the food she eats? What has that to do with you? People have different tastes (literally) and my sister eats stuff I'd puke over (she loves Brussel Sprouts, ugh) but that doesn't mean she has bad tastes, just different ones. Personally I have no time for screamo or nu-metal, but I wouldnt' then say you have better or worse taste than your sister, though kudos for listening to classical. But as 216 said, she's 12! She's been on this Earth less than a quarter of the time I have, and by the way you don't mention what age you are? Everyone's tastes change over time. You can't expect your 12-year-old sister, unless she's very special, to be into what most people would call good or serious music.

Most 12-year olds are into Bieber and Swift et al; she's just being a kid. She has to work through what she wants to hear and at the moment she's probably only listening to what her friends listen to, or what's in the charts as she knows no better. In a year's time, she could join up here and there would be a wealth of music for her to learn about but as Chrysalis says, you can't force someone to listen to what you deem proper music.

She's a kid, man. Let her enjoy her childhood, and some day she'll hear something that blows her away and her whole musical landscape will change, then she'll forget about the teenybopper music she's listening to now. Right at the moment she probably isn't that bothered about what she listens to, later she probably will be as she makes more mature and knowledgeable (musically) friends.

As for her TV programmes, same answer. Let her watch what she wants to watch. She doesn't force you to watch them, does she? Everyone can't like everything you do, and the fact that they don't doesn't mean they have bad taste. What sort of TV do you watch?

You gotta cut her a break man and let her grow, find her own path and don't obsess so much over her tastes.

^ Thank god someone posted that, I thought all of the posts were going to be like the first. If you always try to change her taste in everything, she's just going to resent you.

You can see if she'll appreciate things you do, but don't criticize her for liking different things than you.
