It's probably not as good as the lists by professionals like Rolling Stone or Pitchfork but I tried making a decent list.

Thinkofthechildren 10-28-2013 09:17 AM

Top 3 being Can albums is a little too subjective. Objectively speaking, The Velvet Underground & Nico is the greatest album of all time, way low at 119. Also, I don't see Nowhere by Ride there, that albums ridiculous.

Isbjørn 10-28-2013 09:31 AM

Dude, Master of Reality blows Paranoid out of the water.

Good list, Aichuk, you've got very good taste for a 15 year old. I think a few of the artists should have their albums mixed around instead of lumping all of your Can or Jimi Hendrix together. If you actually like those albums best in that order, then that's great, but your teacher might think the list is more like you listing albums you know instead of ranking them.

Psy-Fi 10-28-2013 10:03 AM

How many of those albums have you listened to and how many other albums by those on your list have you heard?

Aichuk 10-28-2013 10:17 AM

I've heard them all, honestly. I can't have bought all but I spend a lot of time listening to new music on Grooveshark. I've heard a few others albums of the ones I ranked.
Btw, haven't I said that I haven't ranked the albums yet. I just finished listing the albums, now I'm gonna have to arrange them from worst to best for my school assignment.

no it doesn't

Zer0 10-28-2013 11:03 AM

Aichuk, it looks like you found a typical best album list somewhere on the internet and rearranged it to your liking. While it isn't a bad list, and there are plenty of albums on that list that I love, it doesn't seem like it's your own personal top 125. There's no curveballs on the list that convince me that you thought "fuck it, I love this album and I don't care if everyone else thinks it's shit".

Eh, that's subjective. Personally I wouldn't even consider it the best Velvet Underground album.

If it is your list, surely it's better than Rolling Stone's list. You know what you like better than Rolling Stone do, no?

Norg 10-28-2013 06:31 PM

this is the worst list ive ever seen u say not has good has Rolling stone or pitchfork well this looks like something they would spew out LOL really bad

when u say greatest should that mean of all time

so there is like zero to nothing before the 70's LOL I guess music started in the 70's LOL

that's like 90% amercian and European bands so I guess the rest of the world does not make music

and I guess ROCK is the only thing that can be on this list no other styles allowed LOL

and what is NWA always the only Hip hop band on everyone of these list LOL its like ehhh gotta put a rap band on here lets just put NWA

Neu!, Ambient 1, Souvlaki, Hurt Volume II, Elektronik Thunder, Chaina Bhabish- i never saw them in other lists, but i put them there because i love them

Key 10-28-2013 11:42 PM

I'm with others on this, it looks exactly like a Rolling Stones list. Nothing too spectacular, just a few changes to make it a little interesting.

Yes but do you like the list mate?

WoweeZowee! 10-29-2013 12:23 PM

It's decent – you have amazing taste for a 15 year old :).

I always try to criticise music objectively, but obviously creating a list of 125 in that manner is f*cking difficult! In all honesty, ranking personal favourites is just as daunting a task.

The most obvious omissions that I'd peronally include are Abbey Road – arguably the Beatles's finest, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea – one of the best albums most people don't know about, For Your Pleasure – in the words of Morrisey, a truly great British album and Wowee Zowee – Indie Rock's finest, I'm telling you.

Good list.

That's cool. But I've seen Neu!, Souvlaki and Ambient 1 on a few lists. I'll give you the other three however since I'm not familiar with them.

If I was on crack I'd probably still have the ability to respect that other people have different opinions than me.

Their lists would be no better than yours.

Not much in it, but I'd say Paranoid was slightly better than Master of Reality.

Goblin Tears 10-29-2013 01:36 PM

The list is very 'classical', and there isn't much range here. It's very similar to a Rolling Stone list, though the three Can albums at the top spot looks a tad bizarre. But if you're compiling a list of 'great' albums in terms of sheer influence, you've included a great deal of the rock canon. Why are you making this list? a project?

irazrx 10-29-2013 01:44 PM

Mary J. Blige - Mary & My Life should be #1 and #2

MoR, brilliant though it is, is not as powerful or as consistent as Paranoid. Anyone who says otherwise is a racist.......fact

Agreed:beer:

Isbjørn 10-29-2013 02:21 PM

Paranoid has some good songs (War Pigs, Iron Man, Fairies Wear Boots), but I like the overall style on Master of Reality better. I even like the fillers on that one; Embryo goes well with Children of the Grave, and Orchid is good on its own. I mentioned Children of the Grave, and Lord of This World and Into the Void are amazing.

Racist

blackdragon123 10-29-2013 02:34 PM

But seriously. Had After Forever (what I consider to be one of the band's worst ever songs) not been on the album and maybe Embryo replaced with an actual track I'd almost be able to agree with you. In my opinion, MoR feels a bit empty at times

Rjinn 10-29-2013 10:13 PM

I understand this is a school project, so is the list due to the public's reception or is it more personal? List makes sense if we're talking about the big world hoo-haa. Though I don't know why Strokes and Primal Scream are doing on there. Otherwise it's not a bad list. Just confusing...

I like those albums, that's why I put them here. If you don't like them ,then you don't have to include them in your own personal list.

Rjinn 10-30-2013 07:43 AM

That's why I asked whether it was personal or not. Don't fret.

I'm not defending the list bro. It doesn't do much for me personally. I was just being controversial by observing that the Manics are overrated (in my humble opinion) It's all banter!

Blonde on Blonde is patchy and over-long....there...I said it

Haha that's fair enough. Being a fan I have to disagree, and the majority of people I speak to haven't even heard of them, but I can understand why you'd think that.
