Just gonna get this going again...

Surely you think somebody who can write their own song, play an instrument, and sing, is better than a person given a song with all the lyrics and backing stuff ready made, only needing to sing (which sometimes auto tune is used anyway).

Depends really. I can see where you're comin' from, but if someone has an incredible voice, can sing effortlessly, was born to sing, then whether they write the songs, play instruments, play a part in the arrangement, etc., dosn't really matter to me.

Yeah, I guess you can't limit yourself from liking a good voice, just because the songs not good. But I would not register these musicians as 'artists'. Just a point.

I fear you're getting bogged down in semantics. Is a potter an artist? Is a gardener an artist? Is a singer an artist? I don't pay the question too much mind. If their work brings me joy, I salute them.
