Don't blame him. To be honest, it's far from one of my favourites anyway.

Great lyricist.

But I'm just not into that kinda music, it's way too sedated for my tastes.

His later stuff, especially on I'm Your Man and the Future, are a bit more lively with a lot less focus on the vocals and guitars. Those two albums are definitely worth a shot if his music's something you can picture yourself getting into.

i don't blame him in the least. it's like you can't escape that song. even before opening the thread i knew that it was going to be a recent topic of discussion and sure enough...

i've been told so many times how much i was supposed to respect and admire that song because i was also a canadian musician. the adulation seems forced at this point, kind of like how anyone who liked indie music a few years ago absolutely HAD to be all over the smiths and joy division.

To me, Cohen peaked at his debut and steadily went downhill after that. I don't listen to any of his albums outside of the debut. I tried to get into Songs From a Room and Songs of Love and Hate but could not.

I meant to type I don't blame him - I often give the prefixes a miss like that (comes with being English) . There are about a dozen of his songs I think artists could make more interesting covers of, Suzanne, Story Of Isaac and Famous Blue Raincoat among them.

I've only really listened to Songs of Love and Hate but I really dig it.
