Music on music
As far as I know, there isn't a thread about this yet. When music talks about itself. Music about music (could it be called metamusic?).
I guess there are examples from all styles. But, right now, rock songs come to mind. Four classics. Bob Seger: Old Time Rock 'n Roll. Chubby Checker: Let's Twist Again. Elvis Presley: Jailhouse Rock. Bill Haley: Rock Around the Clock. Other styles. Disco. The Village People: Can't Stop the Music. More examples? Other genres? |

I'll try to find other genres (I'm sure other will possibly find other songs soon), but for right now I'll just post these on for you...
Venom with Metal Black and Black Metal Bob Seger talking about "Heavy Music" in two parts on the original 1967 classic. The Trammps telling you about the Disco Inferno! Get it on for your Boogie Nights! A song about Doing the Ska with Ska (There's a song about doing The Twist, so I felt it to be with the concept)! Enjoy! WARNING: This will get mainly cheesy in the next couple of clips, but these fit the concept... Country (plus a little Boogie Woogie!) There was a seriously ultra cheesy song called "Punkstation" from I think 1982 that I'm still trying to find somewhere. It's by a band I think from PA who actually had a decent B-side (kind of like a very light weight Cars), but damn me I will try to find it!!! Had the record as a kid, but sadly it went out of my collection. I really winced at the lyrics, but right now would be a good time to post it just for the hell of it. A little more Ska, one from a fun UK Ska revival band, the other by someone who was more of a 60's Teen Idol (but points for trying). Bad Manners' attempt to bring Ska into the Late 80's. Acid Ska was certainly a concept doomed to fail, but not without some amusement...points for trying, though. Then, it was WTF, today it's actually not too bad. ...This, however... |
Nice idea for a thread, Zaqarbal !
I thought of a couple of fairly obvious songs:- The Stones: It´s only rock n roll The Beatles: It´s gotta be rock n roll music And here are two songs I´d like to share because perhaps they are less well known, but are lots of fun anyway:- |

Getting back to the Honky Tonks, here's one from Hank the Drifter, better known for being a Hank Williams Sr. tribute performer but with songs of his own through the years. Digging the sounds of Muddy Waters singing about Rock and Roll! The Fleshtones saluting the American Beat! The original version...' Plus the '84 video. Neat collection of photos at the end! Plus, you have to have Soul! |
^ Thank you, Screen 13 ! I knew it wasn´t a Beatles original, but I was too lazy to figure out whose song it was.
You´re coming up with an impressive collection of clips; best title has to go to The Blues Had A Baby And They Called It Rock And Roll! I can´t seem to shift into any other genre yet, so here´s a couple of personal favourites about rock and roll:- Pick it up, plug it in, PLAY GUITAR!:- |
The Doors: When the Music's Over (1967).
|
The Velvet Underground - Rock & Roll
The Rolling Stones - Hot Stuff |
Billy Joel: Piano Man (1973).

Barón Rojo: Breakthoven (1985). ♫ "Navega por ahí ................................ Music is something which brings in peace in our body mind and soul. Music has different flavour, it comes in different sounds and genre. To understand music one should have good knowledge of music. If one understand music there is nothing like it as it helps in good health and mindset. There are lots of online music classes being held for which one needs only some chat tools installed in the computer. The fees are also very reasonable.

A reflection on music: in The Alan Parsons Project album, Tales of Mystery and Imagination (1976), there is a track titled The Fall of the House of Usher (as the short story by Edgar Allan Poe). It includes a passage based on some Poe's writings, narrated by Orson Welles:

*Well, I think someone had to post this. Do-Re-Mi and The Sound of Music, sung by Julie Andrews (1965): *Another one by Loquillo: Rock-&-Roll Star (1981). ♫ "Has tenido suerte de llegarme a conocer. ................................ You're lucky that you got to meet me. Creo que a nadie le gusta el nacer para perder. ................................ I think no one likes being born to lose. Abrirás una revista y me encontrarás a mí. ................................ You'll open a magazine, and it's me the one you'll find. Debo ser algo payaso, pero eso me hace feliz. ................................ I must be a bit of a clown, but that makes me happy. Uhu, uhu, uhu, nena, voy a ser una rock'n'roll star. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, baby, I'm gonna be a rock'n'roll star. uhu, uhu, uhu, nena, voy a ser una rock'n'roll star. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, baby, I'm gonna be a rock'n'roll star. «Invertiré mucha pasta», me dice mi productor, ................................ «I'll pump a lot of cash in», my producer says, con el objeto de hacerme estrella de rock'n'roll. ................................ so I can become a rock´n´roll star. Me dice «yo te haré rico, tú sólo has de cantar bien...» ................................ He tells me «I´ll make you rich, you only need to sing well...» «...si no te pegan diez tiros en la puerta de un hotel» ................................ «...if you don't get shot ten times at some hotel's door» Uhu, uhu, uhu, nena, voy a ser una rock'n'roll star. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, baby, I'm gonna be a rock'n'roll star. uhu, uhu, uhu, nena, voy a ser una rock'n'roll star. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, baby, I'm gonna be a rock'n'roll star. Me verás en los carteles, para hacerte irme detrás. ................................ You'll see me in the billboards, so you can come and tail me. Te creerás que soy alguien con un toque especial. ................................ You'll think I am someone with a magic touch. Soy un chico de la calle que vive su canción: ................................ I'm a street boy that lives his song: también me emborracho y lloro cuando tengo depresión ................................ I get drunk and cry, too, when I'm feeling down. Uhu, uhu, uhu, nena, voy a ser una rock'n'roll star. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, baby, I'm gonna be a rock'n'roll star. uhu, uhu, uhu, nena, voy a ser una rock'n'roll star. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, baby, I'm gonna be a rock'n'roll star. I'll want something by my side to pick me up when I fall. Así, nena, tendré suerte de llegarte a conocer. ................................ Thus, baby, I'll be lucky that I got to meet you. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, nena, voy a ser una rock'n'roll star. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, baby, I'm gonna be a rock'n'roll star. uhu, uhu, uhu, nena, voy a ser una rock'n'roll star. ................................ Uhu, uhu, uhu, baby, I'm gonna be a rock'n'roll star." ♫ |
So many good suggestions, examples.

More of a little story than a song:
The King Blues - What if punk never happened - YouTube so here are the lyrics: THE KING BLUES - WHAT IF PUNK NEVER HAPPENED LYRICS |
For once I have a good, bang-on-topic excuse for thread-bumping; nobody so far has posted All You Need To Make Music, a fabulous fuzzy jam from The Stark Reality. Unfortunately this Youtube clip cuts in late, after the song has already started, but there are still eight glorious minutes to recover from that hiccup and enjoy:-

^ Yes, that's what I'm doing too! I'm enjoying the Junkman and Shooting Stars tracks. The album seems to be an under-the-radar gem - perhaps because people don't know what to make of the weird mix; solid "adult" musicianship, then lyrics for children.
