I'm happy to help, but first do you have any response to my question about Louis Armstrong? :)
I need to listen to all the recs and will then respond. What I know of Louis Armstrong, nothing really, is "Wonderful world", and who could not be moved by that song? I also know the song "Mack the knife" and love it, though I thought it was more Big Band than jazz? But hey, as we've seen, what do I know?

Is that a genre?
It should be.
TBH, the title should be "genre, subgenre or artiste", but I was afraid it wouldn't all fit. You can do specific artistes too.

I concur. Especially since there's already a thread about that.

Thanks for bringing someone else into the mix Roxy: I feel like the jazz mob are surrounding my castle with their smooth pitchforks and cool torches! "One of us! One of us! One of us!".....

I would describe big band as a subgenre of jazz (and Louis Armstrong, of course, is one of the biggest figures in all of jazz history). That's the thing with jazz, just like with rock, it's not really one thing. There are boatloads of subgenres and permutations of it. As one of dominant musical genres of the past hundred years, it has its fingers in a lot of pies.

lol. People are certainly welcome to try and get me into Iron Maiden if they want. I have nothing against the band, in fact I have nothing but respect for them for influencing a lot bands I love. They just have never clicked with me.
