Irrational music hatred

Are there any bands/artists that you despise and have taken a strong dislike to, even though deep deep down you know they're actually not too bad?

Muse for me.

Key 01-17-2014 05:12 PM

Radiohead. I'll be honest and say that I have found a tiny bit of enjoyment out of one or two songs, but the hatred seemed to grow as everybody was telling me that I was wrong and should give them another chance. Trust me, I gave them enough chances. I'm sure they are great to some, but my ever growing hate mostly stems from the praise they receive. And how people say Thom Yorke is "duh best vocalist evar!!".

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-17-2014 05:49 PM

I can see Elton John has talent, and some of his singles are not bad, but I could never bring myself to listen to him more seriously due to him being an irritating obnoxious poisoned dwarf with silly hair.

Moss 01-17-2014 05:52 PM

All rose. But its not irrational now that I think about it.

Goofle 01-17-2014 06:14 PM

I rationally hate Ab-Soul.

Rjinn 01-17-2014 07:54 PM

Nine Inch Nails.

I know their early releases aren't bad, but I have vehement hatred for the song Closer that ruined any appeal the band had to me. Aside from thinking their overrated.

Why do you hate "Closer"? I mean it's not his best song but it's still decent.

My reasons don't really warrant such hatred in all honesty. It just personally rubs me the wrong way, especially the lyrics.

Who listens to Nine Inch Nails for the lyrics?

You haven't heard others talk about how sexually dirty that song is?

Not really, no.

It gained a lot of popularity around here partly because fans liked what it was about. Otherwise, I wouldn't really understand why the song would be deemed so great. I don't know any other NiN songs for their lyrics though, but Closer did stand out...

Yeah, it was popular here when it came out too, mainly because high school kids like yelling swears and that was less common on the radio back then. I was just disappointed because the same kids who made fun of me for listening to NIN a few years before suddenly loved them.

Mojo 01-18-2014 05:23 AM

Queen, but I don't consider that hatred to be irrational. I don't like Freddie Mercurys voice, although I recognise he could be considered a good performer and frontman. I don't like the sound or the tone of Mays guitar although I recognise he is technically a talented guitarist, and I don't enjoy the songwriting. I find a lot of their work to be self-indulgent, overly dramatic and flamboyant rubbish and I don't find any of that irrational. It's personal preference, and literally every little thing that goes into making Queens sound what it is is like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Rush is probably more irrational, and I recognise that while I have given them a chance, as I have Queen, I could yet try harder with Rush. But all I've been able to think to this point is technically proficient, technically talented, technically tight band but who make music that I absolutely cannot relate to or appreciate on any other level whatsoever, leaving me bored to absolute tears.

Completely agree with you though I may enjoy a few more of their songs. I certainty don't get the (what seems like) fanatical praise that's been thrown at them. I know people who act as if Radiohead are totally original and have not being influenced by artists past or contemporary. I've given their music more chances than I cared to in trying to discover what it is about them that attracts their following. They're not bad but I've yet to hear anything special that should warrant my spending more time with their recordings.

RoxyRollah 01-18-2014 12:29 PM

I hate, Pearl Jam... honestly I would rather be beaten to death with a bag of wet cats then listen to any of their albums... (BUT I HAVE BEEN KNOW TO SING TO ANY OF THEIR TUNES IF THE CLASSIC ROCK STATION IS ON....) (ahhmm cough)

I feel the same way and the more fanatical their fans are about them the more it turns me off.

Cuthbert 01-19-2014 04:47 AM

Oasis for me. Couple of decent singles, that's about it. Mostly just cos Liam is a prick.

Engine 01-19-2014 07:19 PM

Are we really responding to a thread based on youtube comments?

okay:

-Radiohead is gay
-Elton John is less gay than Radiohead
-The Strokes suck cock
-The only people who have even heard of Ab-Soul are gay as shit
-Trent Reznor wears black lycra because he likes to molest children. People who are bothered by NIN are even worse.
-Queen are awesome and I will beat you to death if you say otherwise
-Rush are more gay than Radiohead
-Pearl Jam fucking suck. Don't even mention them or else I will rape your cat.
-Oasis would suck Elton John's cock if they were smart enough to get his attention. But they're not. They are definitely the most unintelligent band to ever fool several million people into buying their music.

Am I doing this right?

I have a mega irrational hatred for the Beatles. I just think all of their music is a bit uninspired and over-hyped. If I hear a Beatles song, I'm just like...yeah ok, whatever. Flame all you want, but that's what this thread is for. I told you it's irrational.

Also, Eminem. I admit that I like one or two of his songs (especially collabs with Dr. Dre), but most of his work makes me uncomfortable and angry.

I agree, I've never liked him or his band. These are recent comments by the way but I could probably post up 20 articles of daft shite he's said.

"If you have access to YouTube, you should click on to what is called The video the meat industry doesn’t want you to see," he told his followers.

Same here, I like some of it, but it just seems a bit vanilla really. I have tried to listen to them but it's just not my thing.

Decent boyband.

Maybe give Infinite a listen, it's like the polar opposite of the stereotypical Eminem, the album flopped hard and his anger resulted in the Slim Shady persona.

I think Jay-Z is a ruthless bastard who shat on Jaz-O, nicked his name, nicked flows, in fact has never done anything even slightly innovative and never cared about making albums that can last the ages, has no classics yet is championed as the best rapper of all time. He's an imposter.

He also has an annoying nasal voice and is a camel looking wanker.

Hate them. That opinion will never change.

Metallica's later stuff, which I really don't hate, I just think it's a huge step back from what they were doing before. As I've said before, I'd compare it to the Beatles going from Abbey Road and The White Album to Please Please Me, and so on.

Otherwise, I mostly just hate the fans. Fans of most pop musicians, Radiohead fans who are absolutely ****ing convinced that Radiohead is the greatest band that has ever graced the planet, elitists in metal and punk scenes who think you have to live their lifestyle and listen to the ****tiest forms of their music, etc.

I can totally relate to that. As a teenager in an area that was known for it's hardcore scene, I really grew to loathe said scene, and by extension, the music itself. It wasn't until I was older and further away that I started to listen to more hardcore.

Frownland 01-21-2014 12:23 PM

I can't listen to many R&B artists because I hate the sound of the whiny black singer vox you see in it so often.

I don't "Hate" the people that make the music, nor the people that listen to it, but anything that sounds like Blink 182, or any song that isn't Rap and thinks it needs some Rap lines in it are the evolution of music that makes me hang my head and ask God why.

I can't tolerate the sound of an accordion in traditional Spanish music, I can tolerate It a little easier with Cajun style music, but not by much.
