I like Hospice, but I don't find its lyrics to be its major strength. If anything I find some of the metaphors awkward and they really go all in on the "here's a sad thing - because it's sad" shtick. It's the lush, bare sound they've created that get me.

I believe a truly good album needs a mixture of both unless the genre doesnt require lyrics (Perhaps Neoclassical or something of that variety) to be cohesive. I like the music and lyrics equally, but poor lyrics diminishes the music for me and poor music (while less diminishing) has to same effect on me. So I would say lyrics matter a bit.

I pay attention to the lyrics. And I think lyrics are very important of a song. If the lyrics are meaningful, I will listen to these songs again and again, and also I will remember the lyrics. Especially the lyrics which can encourage people and give people strength

I made that comment over a year and a half ago, and my thoughts are completely different. I've since fully embraced Venom's lyrics, and a line of lyrics from one of their songs is one of my favorite line of lyrics ever.

It depends on the song, I guess.
Sometimes, when the lyrics makes no sense, I listen to the music (mostly guitar)
And other times, i listen to the lyrics
