I know the economy would probably collapse, but really from a consumer standpoint it's nice to get a freebie once in awhile.

Hey man. I wonder why The Monks only made one album? Must have been because of illegal file sharing back in the 60's.

It can be pretty hard to make cheap albums though with the artist, distributor and retailer all wanting profit margins... then if you're exporting the album you've got to take into consideration quotes and export taxes and VAT and all that jazz!

This is true.

But what artists such as clap your hands say yeah? They pressed, and distributed their first album out of their pocket. When they got hooked up with their lable is when **** got, well ****ty.

Haha. You would have thought if you could do all that yourself (it would be awesome if every artist could) - you would have much more bargaining power when labels start approaching you..

It wasn't free exactly, it was "name your price", which could be zero if you wanted it to be.

Yeah I have to say I kinda agree Rostasi, I think artists should make most of their coin through live performances, or if they're really good; through something fantastic and original!
