Should music be free?
Hi all, Im Edd.
I was wondering.. with the emergence of mass-torrenting what do you think about copyright law? I know labels have tried to stop people torrenting but people seem to just do it anyway. What're your opinions? Should music be free or will torrenting kill off creative content? Cheers! |
Yes!
I am all for musicians getting paid, but that's only because I steal the album, then decide to pay if I like it. So I dunno if that is some sort of ass backward way of bartering, or what but, seems like a good way to go about it. Works for me. |
You can always listen to the album first before you buy it. But if you decide you want the album after listening to it, you should show the artist your appreciation for his/her good work by actually buying the thing. After all, I don't know of many bands who want to work for free.

Hmm interesting responses. I'm actually writing a paper for uni at the moment about this topic, and one of the things I'm looking into is whether people would actually go back to donate if that option was available. Do you think you do it because you're aware that artists need compensation or do you think everyone would do it?

Everything 'Should' be free.

That is a valid question. I don't think we will ever know. It all depends on an individual.

I love the idea of crowdfunding for artists. Instead of using a label they say "Ok guys, I need $500,000 to make a new album" and the fans donate. This actually happened with Amanda Palmer from the Dresden Dolls, although she asked for $500,000 and raised $2,000,000......:usehead:
