Portishead and Low, nice! I've heard good things about Crystal Castles but have yet to check them out.

Great stuff - and three Scottish bands, nice!

Yeah they're like my big favourites right now. I delayed the opportunity to listen to Portishead and I finally did and cannot stop playing them.

Crystal Castles first two albums are the ones you would probably want to focus on. Their latest is good but not as interesting as the former albums.

Tough to narrow it down to 10, but this list (in no particular order) is probably accurate. I go through phases with genres/bands/artists, but I never tire of listening to these 10 and I don't think I've ever stopped listening to any of them for more than a few months at a time since I first heard them...

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Jimi Hendrix
Frank Zappa/The Mothers of Invention
Captain Beefheart/The Magic Band
The Doors
Neil Young/Crazy Horse
Sun Ra
John Coltrane
XTC

As far as current obsessions, I'm re-visiting my love for soul/funk/jazz with the following (again, in no particular order.)

Curtis Mayfield
Isaac Hayes
Roy Ayers
James Brown
Mandrill
Grupo Fantasma/Brownout
Marvin Gaye
War
Bernard "Pretty" Purdie
The Isley Brothers

I can't think of any guilty pleasure bands/artists. I'm going to see the three remaining members of The Monkees, at a club next month. They are probably as close as I ever get to guilty pleasure music.
