I've been collecting concert posters for 35 or so years and probably have somewhere between 250 to 300 at the present time, not including concert handbills and postcards. I also collect movie posters and advertising posters but concert posters are where I got started. Here are some examples from my collection...
http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8c862c37.jpg A poster by Victor Moscoso from 1985 and one of my favorites of the past 29 years. I currently have it framed and hung in my music room. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps307a09fb.jpg Another favorite poster by Moscoso from 1967, also currently framed and hung in my music room. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6edaaa66.jpg Yet another Moscoso poster from 1967. Featuring a concert by The Youngbloods, Siegel-Schwall Band and lighting by The North American Ibis Alchemical Co. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1da61a19.jpg And another Moscoso from 1967. This one featuring Siegel-Schwall Band, The Steve Miller Blues Band and lighting by The North American Ibis Alchemical Co. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4831fd6f.jpg One more Moscoso, again from 1967. Featuring a triple bill with Moby Grape, Canned Heat, Vanilla Fudge and once again, lighting by The North American Ibis Alchemical Co. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...pse014b5bf.jpg A Poster by Stanley Mouse from 1967. Currently framed and hung in my bedroom. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...psd9beee32.jpg One of the most iconic concert posters of the 1960's, the "Flying Eyeball" poster by Rick Griffin, Featuring The Jimi Hendrix Experience, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Albert King, and lighting by McKay's Headlights. This is the only poster in my collection that (unfortunately) is not an original 1st printing, as they are quite expensive and can sell for upwards of $7000.00 (US) when they show up for sale. Still nice enough that I have it framed and hung in my music room. |

Here are some more from my collection. These are by poster artist Mark Arminski. I bought the first 3 from a now defunct poster shop where I bought a lot of my posters during the 1990's and I purchased the last 3 directly from Mr. Arminski, after meeting him at the "Flatstock" poster show exhibit at SXSW about 10 years ago..
http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...psf2ba2222.jpg Mudhoney with Claw Hammer (1995) This one is framed and hung in my bedroom. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0f5b8988.jpg Reverend Horton Heat with The Cows (1996) This one is also framed and hung in my bedroom. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5ef84fae.jpg The Black Crowes (1996) http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps50effed2.jpg The Smashing Pumpkins with Fountains of Wayne (1997) http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps99feed6a.jpg Grand Opening of The Jupiter Room (1996) http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3fc5e0a5.jpg Ministry with Jesus Lizard (1996) |

One of the greatest shows of my life 9/12/2006

This thread got me motivated to dig into my collection and come up with some more examples of poster art by some of my favorite artists. Frank Kozik has been at the top of my list since I first saw his work in the late 1980's. Unlike some artists who tend to stick with an easily identifiable style, Kozik works in many different styles which is probably one of the reasons why I find his art so interesting. Of all the artists represented in my collection, his work makes up the largest percentage of my concert posters. A few examples...
http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...psdfc4b2d2.jpg Jesus Christ Super Fly (1993) I have this one framed and hung in my bedroom. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps16798345.jpg Butthole Surfers with Stone Temple Pilots (1993) This one is a pun on the Sam Peckinpah film "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia." I've been meaning to get this one framed for some time. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps75c1db24.jpg The Melvins (1993) Another one I have framed and hung in my bedroom. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7c97aebe.jpg Cows (1992) I used to have this one framed and hung directly above the TV set in my living room at a previous residence. It is currently hanging in my music room. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2606a1d1.jpg Boss Hog (1993) Also hanging in my music room. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps939318d9.jpg Surgery (1993) Another one hanging in my music room. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7e402b04.jpg Untamed Youth (1992) Yet another one hanging in my music room. |
Your collection is really impressive, I love that Melvins poster. Pics of your music room?
|
Psy fi....you have an amaxing collection and wonderful taste
but I just have to point out that the Muffs poster was not done by Kozik....but rather by Coop :) |
^^ Your Suspiria poster is freaking amazing too.

I've this one hanging in my room. It's a reissue obviously, I could never afford any original VU memorabilia. |
Could be a bit prettier though huh?

That Unsane poster you have by Lindsey Kuhn, is one of my favorites by him. I had the chance to buy it for $15 back in the day, but I spent my $15 on this one by him instead... http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...ps245676a1.jpg I like that Church of Satan poster by Coop. I've seen a gold lettering version of it, also. I know what you mean about prices going up quickly for certain artists. I'm glad I started collecting when I did and was able to get everything for what I paid at the time, which was usually between $10 to $30 per poster. There are maybe half a dozen posters I paid $35 to $40 for, but I've never paid more for that for any poster in my collection and if I was just getting started in the hobby now, there's no way (short of a winning lottery ticket) that I could afford to replicate my collection. |
I don't know man.....thats a tough one between these Unsane posters....yours does also sat Distorted Pony :)
|
That Emos connecting one is a really good concept.
|
He does a lot of those.....Most for that venue
|
Since i don't live in the USA none of the bands i like ever come to PR so i'll never see those cool posters in my town.
But thanx to the internet i found this one. Spoiler for Big eye ball:
I was looking for one of their poster which has a skull with an old record player in his head but i couldn't find it. |
