What is the biggest hurdle for an artist trying to break into the industry?

It's difficult to break into the industry but I want to know what is it that you find most difficult to overcome when trying to break into the industry?

Good question, at least for me i think it's the fact i never developed an amazing chemistry with the bands ive played..

by amazing chemistry i mean creating a distinctive sound that would create our own brand, most of the bands i played in were punk and while we were good we didn't stand out much over other punk bands

To me the process of making music with those band was that me or the other members made a song and the rest of the band arranged the song by following the lead of whoever made the song.

And though that process work in some songs the perspective and the feel of the song mainly came from the individual who made it but what i always wanted to do was create songs that came straight from the band chemistry, unstructured jams that we polished and made into songs..

Kinda like Sonic youth, that's the method they use, they just play until something is born out of the jam session, i luv that.

It depends what kind of exposure do you want, the way i see it is the big bucks are in the mainstream exposure but getting there is not easy and also with that exposure most times comes with the risk of being used like a puppet by whatever big company is financing you

Local exposure though is not that hard to get, you play a couple of shows and start meeting other musicians and do gigs with them..

at least here where i live all the local bands are united in the struggle so they help each other out getting gigs and stuff the main problem is it doesn't generate alot of money.

One of my closest friend Hassam is not only a great musician, but he's a great promoter and organizer, and despite all the work he does the guy is basically a starving musician.

If he can't make it, i sure as hell would never make it so i don't really know what is the key to success i do know though that the bands that make it usually are the bands that have something special in their sound..

Before I became the most successful jazz musician in world history late last year, I always found my biggest hurdle was to be accepted by the Music Banter community.

The music industry has become such a flavour of the week. You are yesterdays news in the blink of an eye. Getting noticed and having the actual talent after you become well known is the only thing required.
