When did you discover your genre of choice?
I was 13- Green Day made their comeback with American Idiot. I won't lie I loved them and through their older stuff I came across a lot of waaaaaaaay better older pop punk bands from the buzzcocks to descendents to jawbreaker, dillinger four, and all sorts of newer stuff. Nirvana also were a huge gateway band as well. Somehow find my way into goth territory a year or so later and got really into 80s post-punk/new wave/etc.

When did you discover your favourite band/artist?
Hard to say. FIDLAR have been my favorites for a while, before them it was Jawbreaker, before them The Cure, before them Nirvana. I tend to get attached to a band for a couple years and then move on to a new one.

When did you last discover a new genre?
Ah. I'm pretty much a punk worshipper at heart it's really hard for me to sit still long enough to enjoy anything else.

Would you consider your tastes set in stone?
I think I'll always be a fan of punk music or music that's in some way informed by punk so yeah.

Overall, how long have you held your current tastes?
Since I was 13 but I don't listen to some stuff I used to like. Not because I don't like it, just doesn't have the same effect anymore.

Weeeeell, the first artist I ever really loved was probably Gordon Bok, an amazing local songsmith. That was when I was about 2? He had a song-story with a boat, a seal-woman, and an evil, talking wind, how could I NOT love it. (Now, I listen to it and realize it's a fantastic work of art!)

My tastes are now heavily avante-garde, lots of classical, jazz, prog, also metal, folk, world, eletronic, rock, noise... And I'm still finding new things every week to love.

Sooo, I guess about, 22 years and counting?

The day I find my one and only genre, and where my taste stops developing, is the day I'll know I've stopped learning as a musician, as a composer, and especially a listener and lover of music.

Keep exploring, keep discovering, keep expanding!

For me at the moment it's mostly genres related to Punk, Rock, Metal or Ska, but I've barely scratched the surface in all the things those genres have to offer.
Eventually I'll go to other genres like Blues or Jazz.

I think my taste is constantly developing the more I listen to music.
I'd say it really started expanding and changing when I was about 15, that's when I started looking for more and more music. 11 was when I really started listening to music in the first place.

My music taste compared to half a year ago is already pretty different, despite still being in the same 4 main genres.

I just listened to Brian Wilson's Imagination for the first time in about a year. Way back in 2012, it was my favourite album, and pretty much the only thing I listened to. I fully expected to hate this somewhat cheesy pop music. But… I still love it every bit as much! It's not my favourite album anymore, but I'd still have to put it in my top ten. I am sad at how much his voice has deteriorated, though. He sounded weak, even in 1998. :(

I agree with the general ideas of Janszoon post. However, I would consider HipHop my main genre. It's not something I always listen to but it's the one genre that has always been a part of my life.

I forget if I've already crushed your spirit, so I'm going to Grammar Nazi you anyway. I've seen "hop hop" written with a space, or with a hyphen, but never without either one or the other. I'm also going to say that you need a comma in-between "to" and "but" in your third sentence.

Hop hop rules.

When did you discover your genre of choice?

My genre of choice is the general avant-garde, which makes it difficult to pin it down since it's such a wide umbrella term. I guess Mr. Bungle was the first band that I listened to within the genre at six years old. However, I started seriously delving into the crazy stuff after a friend introduced me to Frank Zappa when I was fourteen.

When did you discover your favourite band/artist?

I was fourteen when I first found Captain Beefheart based off of last.fm recommendations. It wasn't until I was fifteen and on the verge of sixteen that I started to "get" him, though.

When did you last discover a new genre?

I'm not sure, I've been well aware of the genres I listen to for a while. I guess I discovered black metal free jazz by making it I guess, because I haven't heard other bands play in that style.

Would you consider your tastes set in stone?

Of course not.

Overall, how long have you held your current tastes?

My current tastes are ever-changing, like everyone else said.
