I don't understand how that's music. I'm open minded to an explanation if you'd like to edumacate me. It's silence and yelling, it sounds like a movie clip or something.

He hits a few notes here and there :)

Well, it's an (mostly) a capella piece. Haino just has a very harsh and distinctive approach to vocals. With that in mind, it's really no different from being music than this

Those pieces are vastly different to me. I could easily say Captain Beefheart is an a cappella piece, he's actually singing while in Haino(even ignoring the silence) there is no semblance of singing, or even a poor attempt at singing. He's just yelling.

It's no different from a punk singer or anything like that really, except he goes into parts where it sounds like he's crying. It's just another take on vocals, like Haino had read a description of what the blues were like but never actually listened to the genre.

What would you call these

"Music I don't like". - If the part around 3minutes didn't have instruments behind it I'd have the same opinion about it that I do about Haino, but it does so I have to call it music.

Frown sometimes you just make me feel stupid or that you're just insane. You confuse me and get me to think about stuff, but most of the time I end up feeling wrong that I disagree with you because I'm just not comprehending it. You're sinister.

Frownland 12-28-2014 11:45 PM

Well I am pretty brilliant.

We were discussing field recordings the other day, so I downloaded some, specifically the sounds of the Borneo jungle. I need something to listen to while I sleep.

Music is a sonic medium that sends a message. I wouldn't consider a speech music, or a poem music, but if it's noise that is created to be intended to be music, then it's music. If you drop a pan and ended up recording it, and then decide to sell it as music, it's not music. If you're dropping pans with the purpose of getting a message across, then it's music.
