They evolved. As a band grows, they take the listener on a nice little journey of development. Improving or Diminishing are completely subjective to the listener. I dont see what the problem is here as - at the very least - they explored new territory as they went. its not like Nickelback, which did four ****ty albums that all sound exactly the same..........

I'm not so sure the OP understands the whole process of most bands growing or developing, otherwise they wouldn't have opened this thread. Coldplay didn't develop, not really, so much as instead, they did what they felt would keep them relevant.

God, it is so hard to force myself to focus on what keys I am hitting, too much whiskey and oh god my new journal post...

Paul! It's good to see you back...even if you are deriding Coldplay...

Coldplay made some of the most fantastic guitar riffs and piano riffs I've heard outside of metal, and basically every song from Parachutes and Viva La Vida has at least one memorable riff from me. I discovered shoegaze/post-rock solely through "Chinese Sleep Chant."

I'm unimpressed with their latest album, though I thought Mylo was pretty good.

I will say this though, I have not played Coldplay in close to a year save for the occasional listen, so maybe it was just a phase for me.

EDIT: also I agree..they have not really developed as much as they have just added new elements and experimented here and there, but as I've mentioned in another thread, I've never cared if a band puts out the same album 20 times, I'll still listen to it if it sounds good to me. I don't tire of the same thing played repeatedly, hence my love for riffs. Also most of their albums themselves are...

Bleh, I just need to make a review of Coldplay's discography sometime.

Terrible Analogy................"For better or for worse" is a totally subjective term because everyone's tastes are generally different --- especially when applied to the arts.........with few exceptions (like a CDC Research Lab) I dont think anybody will think Ebola evolved "For Better" ............

Alright, so I'm listening to Travis right now, and holy ****, they sound exactly like Coldplay. Coldplay certainly don't get any points for innovation. I like them, though.
