Grew up on the same stuff everyone else did, radio hits and all that. As I entered my teen years, I fell in love with Rockabilly, back when the oldies stations played music from the 50's and 60's. And yeah, I still love the music from that time period! When I was a young adult I got into Punk and Metal, my favorite band being Judas Priest (which it still is! I just went to see them live not long ago).
So long story short, yeah, I guess I do pretty much listen to the same music. |
Grew up in the '70's. I still like everything I grew up on. I've always had great taste.

In my child hood days I liked classical beats a lot because I am a dancer and I used to dance on classical songs and I listened them today also.

Does 18 and 19 count? If so the similarity is 85%.
13-17. 10% of that music. |
All of it cuz I'm still a teenager :D but the artists I listened to 5 years ago I don't anymore not because I don't like them just because there's other music I like more now.

I guess I can still sort of reply to this thread, actually.
When I was younger, I listened to a lot more conventional rock stuff. Thing like: The White Stripes, The Kills, The Sonics, The Black Keys, QotSA, Wolfmother, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc. I still really love all of that, but my taste has taken a much more experimental turn, as well as opening up to a lot of new things like hip hop and jazz. |
I'm 31 and still a Hanson fan! Started listening to them when I was 13.
|
I would say the bands that have stayed interesting to me through out all these years are Sonic youth, Nirvana and the Pixies.
I know every Nirvana song by heart except for a few extremely rare songs they have and though i don't listen to Nirvana everyday there are days i revisit In utero and incesticide. I haven't heard every Sonic youth album so im still finding out great songs from them and The pixies for better or worse are still cranking out new material so i have that to look forward to. I also still listen to Fugazzi, Bad religion, even Korn and other bands i liked as teen but eventually outgrew. |
Does 19 count?
If you mean 13-17, about 1% of it. |
I still like all the genres of my various teen phases, but not necessarily some of the specific bands. I still like punk, but not The Clash. Still like prog, but can't stand Pink Floyd. I think I still like everything from when I was 18 or 19... Lou, Iggy, Dolls, Residents, etc.
Oh, I went through a soulless fusion phase in there somewhere - Al DiMeola, Return to Forever, etc. Ugh. I didn't get into my current favorite band until I was 32. |
I'm 18 now, so I'll go by 13-16ish.
Around 13 I was really into pretty much everything popular, being a standard kid. Some classic rock and metal squeezed it's way in via influence of family members and/or Guitar Hero. Don't really listen to any of this and can't honestly think of many examples. Around 16 I was really into what most people label "dadrock", as well as classic country. I'm still into most of this, though I don't listen to it often. Examples would be The Beatles, Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Creedence Clearwater Revival, so on. Now I listen to pretty much everything and anything, but I mostly listen to Indie Rock/Alt Rock, Surf Rock and every form of Blues. |
I was never a huge music fan other than Michael Jackson I didn't listen to much else. I picked up interest in music a few years ago just recently. Now I still enjoy some of MJ's music on top of that I listen to avant garde/free jazz and some rock but I mostly lean toward punk, avant garde and free jazz. Other than enjoying some rock artists I don't consider myself a rock fan. I like experimental, technical **** mostly. I may soon explore the world of classical music.

Not much. I listen to some of the same genres but the stuff I listened to then was stuff not as good. Some of the Hip-Hop I listened to when I was a kid included Nelly, P. Diddy, 50 Cent and the like. Bands - Limp Bizkit & Linkin Park.
The only artists I can think of that I loved then and still love now are Outkast. Ended up liking them more once I got access to illegal downloads and could find out more about their discography. I don't :o: when I listen to the stuff I liked when I was 12 with them, like I do with Limp Bizkit etc. |
I was mainly into crappy core bands, grunge, hard rock, "djent" (hate even thinking of that term now) and music jpop/vkei
the only thing I've kept from those times is music from Japan. never would I have imagined getting into hip hop but there are no regrets there |
A lot, come to think of it. I still like maudlin of the Well, Leftover Crack, The Book of Knots, Swans, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, bunch of stuff I was into as a teenager. My tastes have expanded I guess but I still listen to most things I used to. In my early teens I just listened to whatever was on TV or the radio since I had no money and no computer so I don't count that.

I do occasionally listen to stuff from my teens, mostly stuff like The Jam, U2, Simple Minds, The Police, The Housemartins and The Clash. Its amazing how music from your teens sticks with you and brings back memories. However, I think the music around my early twenties probably influenced me the most.
P.S. I also sometimes get embarrassed at some of the stuff in my collection from my teens (e.g. Level 42 :bonkhead: What was I thinking???) |

I still listen to the jam, the clash and the stranglers and i think i always will. Some bands mark a period in our lives and we eventually outgrow them but some bands are just good and you could listen to them forever. |
I have listened to all the exact same bands as I did when I was about 8 years old and they're still my favourite. I have become more mature with my music however and have a love for many more genres :)

i still listen to System of a Down, which i started listening to in 2001 when i was 15 and Mastodon, which i got into when they released Blood Mountain when i was 19.
other than that, i don't really listen to music i listened to in my teens as often now. most of the music i listen to now i discovered when i was in my early-mid 20's. |
I started listening to Mr. Bungle when I was 7 and I still love them.

Drop down in anytown USA, or Britain. Grab 1,000 people regardless of age, sex, race, etc. Now ask each of them to name the top 10 most important musical artists of their lives. How many times will Captain Beefheart or Mr. Bungle be coined? It's not about what's good. The question I asked Frown was valid. |
pretty sure Magical Mystery Tour is one of his favorite albums sooo
I get a kick out of the whole "most important" artists in music tho. white dudes with guitars unite |

Mr. Bungle is what I like to call awesomely good.
<--------------------------------- When I was a pre-teen, I listened to way more hardcore punk a la Conflict than I do now |

I understand what you mean by the phrase, I'm just with Janzsoon that it's kind of a funny way of putting it. |
If I hate FNM will I like Mr. Bungle?
|

You can add FNM to my list as well because I dig them too. |
Sonic youth was kind of mainstream but they never really had a hit single, did they? Here they weren't really popular, ive honestly never heard a SY song on a local radio station. did they ever had a chart topping hit? i can't recall one.
|
I actually think Mr bungle is very popular and people know, about them due to the fact that if u type faith no more or Mike Patton in search engine it's bound to come up
Idk we will see how, well this new fnm album sells lol |
