So, what did you get?

Frownland 12-24-2014 06:24 AM

Were opening ours up tomorrow, but I have a feeling that my sister is getting me a Miles Davis or Coltrane record. She asked if I had heard of Miles () and said 'ok I'm done Christmas shopping.' Didn't think that one out did she.

Or she might be punking me.

Machine 12-24-2014 07:46 AM

I don't get to open until tomorrow, but I have a feeling I'm getting Swans and Elliott Smith, but I don't know what else.

Isbjørn 12-24-2014 08:08 AM

Hah, I get to open them in a couple of hours.

Pet_Sounds 12-24-2014 08:38 AM

Still approximately 21 hours before I can officially open mine, but my grandma has already given me all her old vinyl, including most of Billy Joel's discography. If there isn't a Beatles-related item under the tree, it'll be a surprise. I'll report back in detail tomorrow.

Rexx Shredd 12-24-2014 09:55 PM

Super jealous, even if you do have months of anguish. I often have wet dreams about what I can do with a prepared electric Chapman stick.

I was right, she got me "Kind of Blue." I also got "Meet the Residents" by The Residents (which I unfortunately already have, so I'll be returning it) and Captain Beefheart's "Safe As Milk" from my uncle.

EDIT: all on vinyl of course.

I got something extremely cool for Christmas! It's a little thing called Jack Diddley Squat! I loved it so much that I got everyone else the exact same thing.

Serioulsy though, I didn't get one single item for Christmas from anyone.

They appear to be from the original 1973 release, with the apple.

Pursuingchange 12-25-2014 06:46 PM

I didn't even get out of bed this morning. I knew the day would be ****, so I got up at noon, ate something, then went back to sleep. I didn't wake up until 6 o'clock tonight. Christmas sucks and is worthless. That's all. Lol

So he DEFINITELY knows how to have fun on any day of the week.

Pursuingchange 12-25-2014 08:44 PM

Nah, I've never got anything for Christmas. Last year I got an orange. That's it. Albeit, a very big orange. The year before that I got underwear. This year I got zilch. It's always been amazing to see all the other people's extravagant gifts that they get. Like those that are being shared here, and those of my friends on facebook. On the best Christmas I ever had, I got a cheap little Casio watch. But I loved it. I've never got squat.

Overcast 12-25-2014 09:38 PM

I got some stuff actually... which was surprising.

Headphones, guitar picks, sheets/blanket, clothes, food, gift cards I gave to my dad, and deodorant.

I don't live with them so I doubt it. Just a random gift, I guess.

Frownland 12-25-2014 10:01 PM

My sister's record came in the mail on Christmas Eve. Before it came, I ran out and picked up some deodorant as an interim present until it came with the pretext of telling her she smelled and not telling her her actual present was actually on its way. But the package was there by the time that I arrived back home, s0 I gave the deodorant to my mom (and explained the situation of course, I'm never rude to my mommy).

Still would have been really funny though. I'm kind of disappointed the USPS tracking was full of **** and said it was in Kentucky.

DeadChannel 12-26-2014 01:51 AM

I just watches a bunch of nazis blown up in a french movie theatre in full blu ray glory

DwnWthVwls 12-26-2014 01:54 AM

My mom handed me $50 said, "Merry Xmas". I gave it back and said, "Merry Xmas, this is for you and Bruce".

Bruce is my stepdad.

DeadChannel 12-26-2014 01:55 AM

By the way, I forgot, I got a book on screenwriting and one on general filmmaking, which is pretty cool.

Pet_Sounds 12-26-2014 07:02 AM

My family's pretty cool; the only clothing I received was a John Lennon T-shirt.

InsightfulOutsider 12-29-2014 04:06 PM

I received three vinyl records

Primus - Frizzle Fry
Beatles - Rubber Soul 2014 mono reissue
Revolver also 2014 mono reissue

Also received the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before you Die" (or something like that) :)

You really are my kind of guy :thumb:

I got a huge amount of DVDs, all films I either love or have wanted to see for a long time. Chief among them was a huge Film Noir boxset combined with a book about it that's the heaviest book I have ever held.
Also got a new satchel, which is cool because the one I had before had been going for a long time and was on its last legs.

Charlemagne 12-29-2014 09:23 PM

In terms of records I just got England Keep My Bones by Frank Turner, but it's my favorite album by him, so I'm happy.
I also got a $50 Amazon gift card, so I'm going to use that to order a few more TBD, I'm leaning towards You're Gonna Miss It All by Modern Baseball, A Record by Laura Stevenson and the Cans, War Elephant by Deer Tick or Transgender Dysphoria Blues by Against Me!

Janszoon 12-29-2014 09:38 PM

I got a little turntable with built-in speakers that's exactly what I wanted. I'm happy I can listen to my vinyl again.

Oh man, I love film noir. I grabbed a set of ten noirs at walmart for $10 a while back. Nothing terribly noteworthy, but all good films.
