Intense Music

what is the most intense band/song you know? (Any genre)

Zhanteimi 12-26-2014 02:55 PM

I think all the music I listen to is intense, each in its own way.

Overcast 12-26-2014 02:59 PM

The Dillinger Escape Plan, I guess. My go-to band when I'm on the verge of exploding and need something intense.

I just wanted to say that.
Converge is pretty intense too.

Indeed. Didn't think of them for some reason.

Pet_Sounds 12-26-2014 05:36 PM

Definitely the Doors.

Frownland 12-26-2014 05:44 PM

Keiji Haino.

If your best answer is the Doors, then see your way out of this thread.

Your loss. Not really though, I mean it certainly is an acquired taste and even though I love him now, when I first listened to that I didn't like it either (it was my first exposure to Haino, probably not the best starting place to be fair). He's got a massive discography though, you'll probably like this one (it's not intense though, which is probably why).

DwnWthVwls 12-26-2014 06:09 PM

Immortal Technique and Necro.

Hallelujah has always hit me pretty hard as well.

Intensity =/= heaviness.

Zhanteimi 12-26-2014 08:21 PM

I agree with you there, Pet Sounds. When one rots one's brain with too much metal, that's all one can think about.

Machine 12-26-2014 08:25 PM

GY!BE has given me many intense moments. White Suns was the first band to make my eardrums hurt and make me tear up due to pain that I actually enjoyed (it's some seriously intense ****). Swans always grabs me by the throat especially their early stuff.

The Batlord 12-26-2014 08:27 PM

But the Doors were not intense in any way. They're weren't even intense as far as their time period went.

Have you heard the full version of "The End"?

Yes. Sweet song. Not as intense as...

All without listing any metal.

I've got to give you kudos; I keep discovering you've got a lot more musical depth than appears at first glance.

The combination of Morrison's voice, Manzarek's organ, and Densmore's drums create an intensity unmatched among music I'm familiar with. However, there's a hell of a lot I haven't heard. I didn't listen to every song you linked, but I'll get back to you once I have.

"Rots one's brain"? Seriously? I don't even.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not an avid listener of meral, but the last thing I believe it does is rot the brain.

Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565

Desensitize, then?

Desensitized to what?

To softer music that can be equally intense.

As time goes on, I learn to appreciate both harder and softer music. When I first started listening to music seriously, I had a small range. I was listening to somewhat energetic rock music but couldn't do anything heavier like metal, or anything softer like folk.

But, eventually, my musical taste expanded in both directions, so now I can listen to a full of hell album and a fleet foxes album in the same day.

I see no reason why listening to harder music excludes softer music.

This has nothing to do with your comment, but Full Of Hell is awesome their new record was one of the most intense records I've ever heard.

Zhanteimi 12-26-2014 11:13 PM

I'm the same way. My tastes run from one end of the spectrum to the other. But I never overdo just one genre.

The Batlord 12-26-2014 11:29 PM

I see you fear to meet my challenge.

This is a very intense album I've come across recently. I enjoy the sound of it, but don't subscribe at all to what I've been told this band ideologically promotes. At least most of the lyrics are fairly vague, but there are some intros and stuff that's more clear about what this band stands for.

So, with that being said I believe it's a possibility that some people may be offended by the lyrics and intro/other parts, (they're NSBM) so just a warning to anyone who thinks they may be offended, plus the intro ends after about a minute, so if you want to get straight to the music, then skip ahead a bit over a minute into the video, but there's another intro later on that's similar and also has potential to offend. (The parts I'm talking about are those certain speeches/rallies.)

I find it funny too, but we're probably not laughing at the same thing. When he starts screaming, the reaction of the people sitting by the speakers are awesome.

My 5 year old nephew has a toy ukulele and makes noises just like this every day. Where's his recording contract? Lol
