I would have to completely disagree on Antlers being close in style to any of these bands. As a solo act with just Peter it was mainly bedroom folk and then Hospice saw the beginning of a shift that was eventually realized over the course of the next few albums into dream pop territory. If anything The Antlers have been pretty unique. In The Attic of the Universe is such a good and original album.
Also This Will Destroy You and Sigur Ros are not alike at all IMO.

Idk I can definitely hear a Post-Rock influence on Hospice, especially on songs like Sylvia. It has a micro-crescendo aesthetic with lots of loud and quiet sounds. Death Consciousness by Have a Nice Life is another amazing post rock influenced album. But Deathconsciousness is kind of in a realm of it's own and is way more post-punk / shoegaze / drone than anything else. Giles Corey doesn't have the post rock aesthetic even remotely but I think there is definitely an influence based on the way the songs are structured. Fun fact, the person behind Giles Corey is also the person behind Have a Nice Life.
Idk. People always reference Loveless by My Bloody Valentine as the quintessential shoegaze album but I've always thought Deathconsciousness blew it out of the water. Earthmover, the climax of the album, is easily one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, easily one of the most heart wrenching things, heartbreaking in a way only the man behind Giles Corey is capable of.

Deathconsciousness? What? I never saw that as post-rock influenced, but I guess I haven't listened to that album in awhile either. You guys sure are throwing that term around a lot. Maybe the genre just shares characteristics found in a lot of other genres or music in general, I dunno.

I like 'em. Good music to listen to when I'm pissed or energetic. I don't listen to it much outside of that, though. |
