Dad rock was originally supposed to be an insult directed at modern bands sounding like bands your Dad liked, not bands he actually did like.

First time I remember it being used was to describe the Stone Roses and The La's because they ripped off The Byrds.

What? No. It's rock your dad listens to: Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Queen, Kansas, Boston, the Who, etc. But of course only that small window of bands that your dad might expected to have been aware of.

That doesn't even make it an insult, just a statement of fact.

How boring.

It's not so much an insult to the music as the dad (i.e. Trollheart).

Feel like we've spoke about this before. But yeah, Urban's right. Wilco, Ocean Colour Scene, especially Dire Straits are classic dad rock. All from different eras, all worthy of dad rock IMO. It's not just old stuff.

So does this mean the derail is over and we get back to voting?

sincerely,

Dad

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.
