Well, she's a Bapist, so I doubt she'd be into mainstream hip-hop.

If she's hot, I'll be DTF, but that's about the extent of the relationship.
lol good lord

im surprised that people are actually saying its a deal breaker. ive never dated anyone that ive had in depth conversations about music (in fact I doubt any of them would be able to tell you what I listened to regularly) and its never bothered me in the slightest. in fact I have no idea what most of them listened to either. music preferences is not something I have ever cared about in anyone.

I think the part of that I find the most amusing is "contemporary". Like, that implies there's an older tradition of Christian hip-hop.

...

Is there?

The person I'm dating doesn't have extremely well-defined tastes. I know he likes Gorillaz and Justice, but a lot of the other stuff he's told me about is video game OSTs. He's perfectly willing to lend an ear to just about everything I send his way, and he surprisingly, he likes a lot of it. Not that I'd care. I just like being with someone who's musically open-minded, regardless of whether or not they actually have tastes that overlap with mine.

If not music then what else? There's got to be some sort of common ground. Let me go down the litany.

1. Bad music taste (Okay, you're boring)
2. Doesn't like video games (Okay, you're really boring)
3. Never cared for digimon, pokemon, or yugioh (where's your soul?)
4. Hates skateboarding (you suck)
5. Doesn't watch Youtube or if so watches boring crap like makeup tutorials (Oh my gawd)
At this point you better be at least 8.5/10 in looks or GTFO.

So my question is, at what point is it a dealbreaker to you? Lack of commonground in music is a big strike, but can be compensated (maybe).

I'd have to agree with you on that one.

But i thought you knew.. you don't really get to choose who you fall for it just happens.

Would you consider dating someone if they had the opposite music taste?
Apparently yes because my wife and I have completely different tastes in music.

Just fine. Just because I'm really into music doesn't mean I demand everyone around me be into it the way I am.

There's actually a dating site which helps make matches based on taste in music:

Meet new people. Discover new music - Tastebuds
