Nobody was saying you need drugs to appreciate the music you listen to doll. The music you listen too is enhanced by drug use, or was made by drug takers. People who take drugs, are risk takers at heart, but some times need a little bit of help to open up and express themselves a little better. Drugs are that outlet. Because your inhibitions are lowered. Drug taking can be a very enlightening experience, and can change your perspective on life for the better if you let it.

It can also turn you in to the a piece of **** if you let the drug do you. The music is just a side of effect of that. The artists that make the music may or may not be pieces of **** irl, but their music regardless may still be brilliant even if under the influence.

Lots of weed and hallucinogenic chat in this thread, but for me music on ecstacy is better than music on anything else. Be it on a dancefloor in a club, or inside spacing out.

My response to this question is an emphatic no. Just like it is a dangerous myth that drugs enhance your creativity, it is pretty ridiculous to start arguing that drugs can enhance your appreciation of creativity, musical or other. You can also argue that taking your appreciation of a piece of music to a higher level demands an element of intellectualism or understanding, an ability to think about the music, the story behind it and what makes it great. Can't exactly do that if you are off your face.

So basically, you are calling a few members here liars?

it's entirely possible. it all depends on how you define "helping to appreciate".

i've never done anything harder than skunk, but i definitely enjoyed certain music while high as it put me in the right mood for it.

contrary to what Shelly said, you don't need to understand the story behind a song to enjoy it. if her rather idiotic statement was true, then it wouldn't be possible to enjoy music that's in a language you don't understand.

and i enjoy German, Japanese and Korean bands despite not understanding the languages.

anyway, that's a little off topic.

i'd say that drugs aren't necessary to enjoy music, but it would be wrong to say that they do absolutely nothing to enhance the experience.

in the end it all boils down to the individual and their tolerance of said drugs.

That can be pretty sweet. Hey, I've found more enjoyment out of some really sludgy or grungy stuff while on smack.

Either you've never listened to music while high or you just listen to ****ty music, cause in no uncertain terms, you are wrong. Like, wrong wrong. Any response to this that doesn't concede my point is just you continuing to be wrong.

I've recorded the bulk of my music while off my face and my best tracks are done when I'm in the state of mind. Some of the stuff that I've recorded sober isn't as good as most of the stuff that I've done while I'm high.

I also have it on good authority that people on drugs are more likely to appreciate my music as well, so it might not be as cut and dry as you're trying to put it. There are a lot of complex ideas that I'm putting forward on some of these records that have gotten good responses that are some people on drugs are capable of having that level of intellectualism (because all music is to be listened to from an intellectual point of view and that's a fact) to dissect and analyze the music while high as ****.

The way you're painting the situation could very well be applicable to you in your approach to listening to and creating music, but sometimes you have to remember that there are still going to be people who aren't exactly like you.
