Eventually each of these 1000 will have their week of glory where I choose their top 5 (and hopefully some of you will be doing the same with me. So, I will not necessarily write down stuff about their style or whatever, but I will definitely have their top 5. I mean, I guess before the week is over I can write a sentence or two about the band overall.

But yeah, I definitely spent a lot of time creating the list. Hopefully some of you take interest in it and maybe some of you will discover some new music on the list as well. I do not have a lot of obscure ones, but definitely a handful of bands most people may not know.

Can't wait for artist of the week 956 which will be in like 20 years

joenorwood77 04-22-2015 02:09 PM

I never got into Slayer. which I know may seem strange based on a lot of bands on my list.

Regarding Slaughter, they were solid back in the day. Mark Slaughter's voice is so messed up now days though. It was actually sad hearing him try to sing. The drummer is extremely entertaining live though. They are still worth checking out live for the drummer alone.

I know it will take 20+ years to do one artist per week. If I did not work or have any responsibilities, I would do one artist per day instead. LOL

Getting through 50-52 bands per year is still solid though.

I may not be the most cynical person, but you can't tell me you spent 19-20 years on this list.

Nope. However, I just started doing my artist/band of the week thing, where I will focus on one of the 1000 bands each week, listening to their entire catalog, and select my favorite 5 songs by them. So, I will get through about 50-52 bands per year with THAT project. Within about 20 years, hopefully I have my top 5 for each of my 1000 fave artists.

Let's ignore the fact that tastes change over time

My #1 favorite band 5 years ago, Radiohead, probably wouldn't even break my top 100 anymore

I would be naive to believe once I get through all 1000 bands, that my tastes would not change. That is part of the fun though; as I go through the list, I will remove some while adding others. This is a completely fluid process. Hopefully when I post some bands of the week, people will respond stating something like, "if you like these guys, you should really check out so and so".

It still amazes me how there are haters on this forum. I am just trying to post things to create discussions. What harm is there in me choosing 1000 bands and featuring 1 per week? Worst case I will feature some bands I eventually do not like as much. I guess the only bad outcomes are if no one posts or if the only posts are negative ones.

You come across as immature and overly ambitious to an obnoxious degree, which usually rubs people the wrong way. I mean the term "hater" alone reminds me of the Mountain Dew Call of Duty generation and makes me want to puke

You seem like a fine, friendly dude but a "top 1000 bands" with a weekly band of the week where you expect people to listen to entire discographies is all just silly, basically I and the rest of us probably think you should just tone it back and ease yourself into the forum by commenting in existing threads rather than trying out these ridiculous projects a week within registering.

I'm not going to take interest in a list that I could just find by doing a simple Google search.

It's kind of this yes. Even posting a list of 1000 bands, line by line, made this thread an annoyance to get into until page 2 arrived, as you had to page down or ctrl end unless you wanted to scroll, scroll, scroll ... a thousand lines is a long way to scroll. It just annoys people having to do this every time.

It's a little ambitious, but if you want to do it, I would suggest checking out our Journals Section, as something like this would be better suited to that section. I am already well into the history of progressive rock, 1001 albums you should hear before you die and various discographies in my journals, so if you posted there you might not get as much negative feedback, plus if you actually start writing about the artistes more people may be interested.

I still seriously doubt though that anyone is going to listen to a full discog a week, as you seem to want people to. Most may listen to what you have to say when you do it (if you do it) but I can't see a huge number of people (or anyone really) jumping on board. It's hard enough to get people to listen to one album a week, never mind a whole discography.

But yeah: as YD says, join in the discussions (I see you have already, but maybe outside of the GnR idea) and get to know us. We may not seem such *******s then. Or we may. Who knows. But at least you'll get to interact with us a little more.

Also, again, for the love of god, spoilers on that OP? Now that we're on page two it's not so bad but really, it's a pain going past all those albums. A simple spoiler tag would sort it.

I used the word "hater" because it was basically a significantly nicer version of words that first came into my mind. Hater is a word I have used maybe ten times total in my 37 years of life, and that includes the this post.

I am overly ambitious when it comes to things I enjoy and love. I thought finding a music forum would be the place to share this interest. I have been commenting on other peoples topics as well and not just mine.

I do not expect a ton of people to participate in my artist of the week, nor do I expect a lot of people to read all of my nearly 1000 bands. I put stuff out there and hope at least a handful of people might become interested. What rubs me the wrong way is when some people appear to have zero interest in my thoughts but post just to throw jabs at my ideas. Wouldn't the "mature" thing to do is to just not post in those threads you do not have an interest?
