Title: (deep breath) The idler wheel is wiser than the driver of the screw and whipping cords will
serve you better than ropes will ever do
Artiste: Fiona Apple
Genre: Singer-Songwriter/Jazz

Love
Minimalist nature of the opening track; certainly serves to highlight her vocal talent
“Werewolf” is pretty good
So is “Periphery”
“Regret” is really nice
Okay. I'm feeling it now.

Hate
Second one I'm not so mad about; kind of harsh and bitter
Meh: it's good and she's talented but I'm just not feeling it at the moment (about track four)
“Hot knife”'s a bit annoying

End result: I started off thinking it was good, got bored, regained my interest, got very interested, thought it was good and ended up thinking yeah, not bad. Not blown away though.

So, Love or Hate? On balance, Love.

Chances of a full review: 4/10

Title: Jaggernaut
Artiste: Scissorfight
Genre: “Acid mountain rock”, so they say themselves

Love
1. Was totally bored up till “86 Sucker”. Like that one a lot.
2. “Backwoods” is pretty sweet too.
3. Yeah, “Fang” is not without its charm either. Starting to warm to this a little.

Hate
1. Too abrasive and grindy mostly; bit bored to be honest.

End result: Yeah, this is pretty rockin'. Didn't like it at first but I've got into it now and it's some good old down-and-dirty rock. Sweet.

So, Love or Hate? Love, I believe

Trollheart, I noticed you list horns very frequently in the "Hate" portion of your reviews here, and I was wondering if you specifically hate horns in specific kinds of music (i.e. punk) or if you hate horns in general. I'm sure you've covered this question before but I can't find the answer. Your response will determine my next suggestion.

No in fact I don't hate horns. I can listen to them easily. But of a certain kind. I love soft, smoky, luxuriant sax, uptempo trumpet to a degree, tuba can be ok in moderation and flugelhorn never fails to give me a shiver. I actually love sax, most of the time.
Where I hate it is when it goes wild: fast, loud, screechy, all over the place like in some prog bands or of course jazz. When it seems kind of directionless and as if it's screaming at you. This would be a good example of a horn I can listen to

and this isn't

(It's not the best example but all I could find at short notice. You know what I mean...)

Title: Yeezus
Artiste: Kanye West
Genre: Hip hop

Love
The fact there's a bit of energy and almost rock to it
“Hold my liqor” is the first track I've really enjoyed
Make that the only track.

Hate
Pretty indulgent (you don't say)
I've never been overfond of the graphic sexual content in what little hip -hop I've heard, and this is full of it.
Those “siren-like” keyboards always annoyed me.
Auto-****ing-tune!
Way too much squealy keyboards (yeah, from a prog head!)

End result: Although I enjoyed the other album I listened to from him, I bloody hate this.

So, Love or Hate? Duh! Hate.
