He won't like DOOM and were not even allowed to recommend good hip hop for a while anyway.

Ah damn alright. I thought DOOM might be just good enough with the sort of comic book narrative he follows.

Title: If you knew Suzi
Artiste: Suzi Quatro
Genre: Hard rock

Track 1 (Love) I know this, as most of us do; one of her big hit ( I said “hit”!) singles. Great stuff.
Track 2 (Love) Same here, another big hit and a great song.
Track 3 (Love) Slower, bit moodier, still really catchy and captures the smoky sensuality of this lady
Track 4 (Love) Not crazy about the Kinks, but she does a good version.
Track 5 (Love) Suzi was always at her best when working with Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and this is another of their gems. Sort of a reggae feel to it, but that doesn't spoil it for me
Track 6 (Love) Another by the hitmaking pair, and another good, if slightly wishy-washy song
Track 7 (Love) Nothing wrong with covering a Petty track! Again she makes a fine job of it. Nice sleazy shuffle, love the sprinkly keyboards
Track 8 (Love) A great rocker, and one of only three written by Suzi
Track 9 (Love) She really gets a chance to exercise those lovely, um, lungs on Rick Derringer's song here
Track 10 (Love) Bit “Leader of the pack” with some elements of Springsteen. Good song.

End result: Was probably never in doubt as Suzi was a huge crush when I were a lad, but I certainly was not disappointed in this.

So, Love or Hate? Hey, it's Suzi Q! Gotta be Love!

I'm really glad that you liked it! She had some pretty killer live performances during this time period as well, if you want to check them out.

Spoiler for =):

Title: The Orchid Days
Artiste: L'Orange
Genre: Hip-hop

Track 1 (Love) Sort of new-age vocal mixed with soul? Nice. Reminds me of that song that used to close Radio Luxembourg transmissions: “Go placidly among the noise and haste” etc.
Track 2 (Love) Crackling record over spoken samples with a nice beat. Different but I like it
Track 3 (Love) Like the piano and the guitar, the female vocal, very soothing. Smooth guitar a la Clapton at his best.
Track 4 (Love) More kind of of the same; this reminds me of the sort of thing James Blake was doing, but much easier on the ear.
Track 5(Love) Oh man! The combination of a slow rap with trumpets here is excellent.
Track 6 (Love) This is just beautiful, even if it is a little annoying the way it keeps stopping and starting; I'm kind of getting used to that now.
Track 7 (Love) Another great little track. Did they slip in some jazz there while I wasn't looking? Yeah, but I still like it.
Track 8 (Love) This is more like seventies/eighties soul, very smooth
Track 9 (Love) Another great mix of kind of honky-tonk piano and rap with an almost forties female vocal over it.
Track 10 (Love) More forties-style jazz/big band with interesting samples running across it
Track 11 (Love) Really like the almost-but-not-quite acapella vocal here
Track 12 (Love) Like this one too; little repetitive, but I can't honestly hate it
Track 13 (Love) One thing I really like about this album is the rapping, when it's there, is, how can I put this? Relaxed. It's more low-key, not in your face the way some bands tend to be. Almost like reggae and rap mixed, which is odd as they're two of my least favourite genres.
Track 14 (Love) I like the orchestration in this track, unless it's keys, in which case it's done really well.
Track 15 (Love) Is that trumpet or someone singing? Either way it's supremely cool.
Track 16 (Love) More forties singing with a great beat behind it
Track 17 (Love) Pretty much the same
Track 18 (Love) Great spoken vocal, kind of reminds me of Rod Serling, then the rap comes in perfectly.
Track 19 (Love) Great track wih a great melody, almost progressive in its way.

End result: A real surprise; not quite sure if this would qualify as pure hip-hop, though Frown said it was a little different/unique. He's certainly right there.

So, Love or Hate? That's Love, for sure.

Title: Beneath waves
Artiste: Karl Blau
Genre: Folk/Indie

Track 1 (Love) Very relaxed and sort of campfire-style folk song; like the melody, the rhythm, like his voice and the backing vocals. The sax and piano combination is exquisite.
Track 2 (Love) This starts off a little more sparse but picks up nicely with harmonica and piano in the middle
Track 3 (Love) This is more kind of jangly rock. With added flute.
Track 4 (Love) Reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel
Track 5 (Love) And this is more Paul Simon, or maybe Joseph Arthur. Like the horns in this. Interesting instrumentation.
Track 6 (Hate) Not too fond of this one; don't like the tempo changes in it and it just doesn't really speak to me at all
Track 7 (Love) Much better. Kind of a folky acoustic feel to it, even the sitar (is it sitar? Sounds like it) is very relaxing, unlike in the last track where it was annoying. Nice Paul Simonesque vocal.
Track 8 (Love) I get a kind of fairground/carnival feel from this. Is that accordion? Ooh, nice!
Track 9 (Love) Great spoken vocal, lovely guitar. Love the organ too.
Track 10 (Love) It's a bit odd, but yeah I like it.

End result: A nice little album, quite relaxing mostly and certainly feels very organic and rooted in reality.

So, Love or Hate? That would be another Love

I'll still never understand

Nujabes tracks are almost unparalleled in their "relaxed" factor at least for me :/

Glad you liked it! I play that album a lot when I'm painting or gardening. It's nice to have playing in the background.

Did you just say "Paul Simon" three times in one post? Sold me. Plus, it's a WWWP rec, therefore worth checking out.

I'd also like to add that this is probably my favourite thread on the boards at the moment.

As Roxy would say, find a woman.
