Hip hop:

The Coup - Steal This Album

Boots Riley, from The Coup, also randomly has a side project with Tom Morello called Street Sweeper Social Scene. It's decent but of everything I've heard from him Steal This Album is best. 5 Million Ways to Kill a CEO from the album Party Music is their "hit" song.

Lastly, the song "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" by Gil Scott Heron is absolutely badass. He calls out literally everyone that was fake protesting, etc. in the 1970s. One of my favorite revolutionary type songs.

Several of its songs also incorporate voice samples which express political sentiments, most notably "The Dead Flag Blues" (on F♯A♯∞) and "BBF3" (on Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada).

Although I probably wouldn't have thought it from just listening to their music either.

Much of American music that could be termed 'subversive' or 'anti-establishment' tends to be in the smash-scream-destroyeverything type vein, you might find a lot more thoughtful stuff in French and German.

Yeah, most german anti-establishment music details subtle, intricate plans whose implementation would result in the world being a better place in two to three months tops.
