I've heard much purer industrial of course, and I am not saying NIN is the hardest industrial or the best example of it, but they're indeed an industrial band. If you were to bring up NIN recent three releases however, I'd say that leans much closer to heavy synth or electronic than anything else. Do I got those terms right? Brain is telling me I may be thinking of two different things...

Anyway. Getting off of my NIN tirade now.

I dig Chvrches something fierce. I didn't expect to like them as much as I do, but...I do, and I find some things about their music actually refreshing too.

This is a track I really dig so far.

And I am having trouble calling Chvrches a pure or true Pop outfit. They've got a lot of different sounds and influences on their album that has been out. And I find their music to be leagues or bounds better than TONS of 'Pop' that's out there. I'm sure there are better Pop outfits than Chvrches, but right now, they're my favorite.
The way I see it, calling NIN industrial is like calling O'Douls regular beer. Sure it's got .5% alcohol, but calling it anything other than non alcoholic beer is just deceiving yourself. There are more prominent genres in NIN's music to refer to them as an industrial band, even if they have some elements of that in their work.

Hey man, cool to have your opinion about it, and I'm fine to agree to disagree with you about it haha. Trent Reznor hates (to my knowledge) Pop music, but there's plenty of NIN music that has Pop influence. Prominent genres? I agree there are a lot of different sounds going on in NIN music at least.

Is that why he's so whiny? Because he's become the very thing he hates?

haha, well Hesitation Marks had some pretty strong Pop influence on it, and I can't say exactly what Trent hated back when he was so pissed of, maybe himself I don't know. NIN early releases though, pretty industrial in my opinion.

You post up your version of what you define industrial as. I want to know.

It's not really a question of how Frownland defines it.
This is industrial.
The stuff people usually call Industrial is Industrial Rock/Metal.

No, we go by what is correct. There's just a lot of overlap between what I think and being right, so I can see where it's easy to get confused.
