Default Mainstream You Feel Is A Bar Above...

Hopefully a thread or topic with this concept does not already exist, often the search function comes back with too many results to sift through...

Mainstream music. Millions love it, misfits or those that pursue music with little attention to mainstream appeal, shun mainstream music or don't often listen to it. I'm one of those people, yet I like my own share of mainstream music, certainly all of us do even if we claim otherwise, and that's a fact, ladies and gents.

Out there in the dominant mainstream market, world, whatever you want to define it as. We have artists or bands that while mainstream, they've got those special little traits or quarks to them that allow them to stand apart, or stand out a head above their peers. What's strange but not surprising, especially considering the way music is marketed or the audience diversity, is how those artists that aren't as interested in fitting in or shaping their music around that same generic sound, the artists that are a dime a dozen get the most attention, the awards, the acclaim. It's how it works.

What mainstream music do you think is a bar above the rest or better? This is all across the board man, any genre. So let's hash this out and see what those opinions on the subject are.

An example of what I feel is better than a lot of other mainstream within the genre of Rock/Indie/Grunge...

You'll notice the unabashed homage to Nirvana with this bands music, yet I hear something a little fresh in this bands album. Maybe it's how raw it is, yet aggressive too, vulnerable.
