Have you ever gone crowd surfing?

Seems like a good poll for a music forum. A lot of us go to concerts, but how many of us have gone crowd surfing before?

The Batlord 10-05-2015 05:42 PM

Only ever at the one show (Mayhem Fest from a few years ago) but it was definitely a rush. Got dropped on my head twice. I'm fat.

Aux-In 10-06-2015 04:20 PM

I've done it a few times. It took me awhile to build up the courage to do it. For the most part, if you go into it expecting to be dropped or have people mess with you while you're up there, it's cool and not so bad. Of the several times I did it, only once was I punched and once was I dropped. It was at smaller venues, though. The rest was like you said, a definite rush.

The Batlord 10-06-2015 04:30 PM

I think getting dropped on my head was a bit of a rush. Rushed right to the ground.

sidewinder 10-06-2015 11:15 PM

No. Too tall, but most importantly, it's never seemed like something I would enjoy. Maybe I don't want people touching me.

ashtrayogdc 10-07-2015 03:13 AM

I always personally thought concert goers crowd surfing is bad etiquette. Just my opinion. I always said crowd surfing is for lead singers. Nothing more annoying than trying to enjoy a show and have some attention whores shoe in your face.

Yep.

Aux-In 10-07-2015 04:27 AM

The first time I went crowd surfing, I was in an area where a bunch of guys were putting up a lot of people; asking people if they wanted a lift. So I simply said, "why not?"

I think it highly matters on who's playing also. For example at a rave style situation or a local punk show I mean who really cares. Now if I'm at a show where I paid good money to see one of my favorite bands it's totally uncalled for.

There's of course varying opinions on this. I'm sure some bigger name bands encourage it and enjoy to see the crowd doing it. So I guess more than anything it's just a pet peeve of mine.

2 to 8? God this site is full of boring, indie dweebs.

lol youve done it once

anyway yeah ive done it (at a gwar show) its just not that great

Charlemagne 10-09-2015 09:13 AM

I would never crowd surf. I don't like the idea of being touched by all those people, and I find it very attention seeking and I'm really not into that.

In my defense, I've been out of a job for the last 5-6 years, otherwise I would have had the opportunity to do it a lot more. And the local venue is bitch-made and will throw you out for doing it.

Exo 10-09-2015 10:48 AM

Never. There have been a lot of times where I'm standing there enjoying a show only to have some fat manatee of a girl fall on my head. I generally look forward when I got to show so I never have any clue it's coming and it scares the sh*t out of me. By the time I've recovered from having a sack of potatoes fall on me, the girl has been carried away so there is no longer a chance to grab some clam.

It's a tragedy every time.

The Batlord 10-09-2015 11:03 AM

****ing whiners. I guess you just don't like your travelling jukebox interrupted by having to actually participate in the communal experience of a concert.

Or clams for that matter.

You're just trying to justify getting groped by strangers by using some lame form of machismo. There's more to a 'communal experience of a concert' than crowd surfing. Dork.

Exo 10-09-2015 11:22 AM

F*ckin' dork.

Ninetales 10-09-2015 11:36 AM

maybe it's one of those "you should do once in your life" kind of things but honestly its not that fun and its pretty lame anyways.

I mean i kind of like the whole "carnage" of mosh pits and ive never had a bad time in one, but I always just end up thinking about it later and how stupid the concept is. its like what a puberty-induced 7th grader would tell his bro friends what his ideal concert would be. nerds trying to be jocks or something.

(thats not going to stop me from moshing again fyi just an observation)

Like you said, no matter how dumb that **** sounds in retrospect, it's still fun when you're doing it. I love that **** if for no other reason than it physically engages you in the show rather than just leaving you a headnodding spectator.

This is a valid point, I guess, for those who aren't regularly getting naked and having sex.

You realize that you'll eventually fall into this category, unless you have some sort of untimely demise, yet I'll never be a dork. Your point (not sure you even have one here) is moot.

Hey name calling is name calling. I'm older than you, you work at BK. Facts. It doesn't change the fact that you just want strangers groping you, yet all you can manage to spew forth as a rebuttal is a snarky insult.

None, but you're the one who brought it up.

Yeah but I can see why people wouldnt like it. Chastising those who dont crowd surf just seems like the nerd version of being a dudebro.

I'm a self-conscious jerk. I don't chastise. I annoy. Not that I don't think Plankton and Chula are whussified old men and Exo is a whussified hipster of course.

Aux-In 10-09-2015 03:59 PM

I am not surprised at the poll results. Most people don't crowd surf. I am kind of surprised at how many seem to scoff at the idea. It's ****ing rock 'n roll. I've done some moshing as well in my day, just to kind of do it, even though it felt silly at the time. A mosh pit is always started by the biggest guy who is the most lit. Sure, it's annoying when mosh pits break out around you when you're not in the mood.

I don't know what kinds of concerts a lot of you go to/have gone to, but there's all kinds of annoying things at concerts. Also, there's nothing worse than going to a rock concert and having a dead crowd where everyone just stands there. It depends on what type of concert, sure.

Justthefacts 10-09-2015 05:05 PM

Crowd-surfed the first time a few months back for Courtney Barnett. I was holding onto the rail, then all of a sudden I get this urge to do it so I lifted myself up on the rail then flung myself backwards. It was quite exhilarating. Everyone needs to try it at least once. Except fatties. Please don't try

I'm probably not too far off when I say that you were the special needs kid in a few of your classes. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just when I encounter this sort of 'having to prove myself' behavior, it seems comical now that I'm a 'fogey' but you keep on truckin there, jerkwad.

The impression I'm getting from you is more "irate" than "comical". Did you run out of Metamucil or something?
