Whatever Brains - LP

1. Bad Dads

Can't find the lyrics to save my life of course.
I'm guessing this band isn't that mainstream. That's
fine with me I'll just have to focus on the songs as a whole.
It's really thrashy song. You'd think since I tend to not like
things so what's a good word for it? Disorganized? Anyway, you
would think I wouldn't like this song but, I do. I like it a lot actually.

2. Gentleman Caller

Really slow opening. Most likely so you can hear the lyrics.
This band is really different. Can you even call them any genre?
I kind of don't think so. There's a lot going on to just call it
Rock or, Punk etc. I don't know though. It's alright this song.
Like the spooky sounding parts.

3. Drink the Salt

This band seems to have a really old school meets new school
kind of style. It's very like thrash but, somewhat different.
This it my favorite song so far. It's just in your face.

4. Marquee Warfare

A slower song. I like this band because, they sound kinda creepy.
This song sounds like it could be in a horror movie. Like a part
where a girl walks into a room and all her friends are dead.
is it just me that gets that kind of vibe? I really just can't
get over that idea.

I'm kind of just taking this one in. It's so different from the
last one really. I don't dislike it but, it's just kind of there.
I wonder who/what got embedded in a tree. It's alright.

6. Summer Jammin 2

My first thought is where's Summer Jammin 1? I like this one it
kind of sounds like if The Beach Boys were a punk band and they
were kinda weird.

7. Diphtheria Trot

Diphtheria (dif-THEER-e-uh) is a serious bacterial infection
usually affecting the mucous membranes of your nose and throat.
Alright then. Yeah, I googled it. Gotta get an understanding of
what the song is about. For what it's about it makes sense that
the song is kinda weighed down. It feels heavy. It's an alright
song over all.

8. Teething

I'm not sure I like this one. Okay I like it more when the actual
song starts. Actually I'm not really sure how I feel about it.
Somewhere in the middle. It's weird but, I kind of like how
insane it is. It just totally lost it. Oh, could it be the idea
of a teething child crying?

9. I Am a Tourist

I really like the way the singer, sings for lack of a better
word. Vocalizes? It's just unlike anything I've really heard.
The song's already over. Loved the end.

10. The Petfinder

Crazy bass. Another good song. I like it a lot but, I'm not sure
exactly what to say about it other than that. I really love how
this band just goes nuts sometimes and they add little things in
like the I don't know what it is in the background. Kinda sounds
like a ghost going oOOOooooooOOoOo or something. It's cool.

11. I'm Going Martin

One of the more circle pit type of sounding songs. I always love
some reverb on a track like this. Is that weird? Whatever. Ha,
Whatever Brain. Really like this one. A lot of my commentary on
these songs are so short because, I really need to liste to all
the things going on in them.

12. The Clot

I'm not what sure to say. It's another track that isn't
really bad but, I don't love it either. I prefer their stuff
that's faster I guess?

13. Syllabus Dot / Episode Rot

Yeah I like it. It's like that kind of hypnotizing beat. Another
mix of new and old school I think. If there's anything to be said
about this band it would be there's most likely not many like it.
which automatically makes it a fun experience.
4.5 stars

Over all it's a solid record. I'm still letting it sink in. Even
the songs I thought were just ok were at the very least something
new and different that I rarely hear.

Right? What a great band. Usually I'll describe them as some crossroads between Primus, Wavves, Pissed Jeans, and Blood Brothers, but wven that doesn't do it enough justice.

My next rec is the self titled debut by Dead Can Dance.

Oh wow I haven't heard Primus in some time. Maybe even like 12 to 13 years haha. Great band. I know of Blood Brothers but, not well. Anyway, added.
