Default Albums that are influential/innovative/good

Hi everyone.

I'm looking to increase my knowledge of music, especially of the past decade, I want to get a sense of the rise and fall of artists and genres and what music has been doing whilst I've only payed attention to those few things in those even fewer niches I really like.

To that end I'd like to hear what albums you consider to be influential (so I can learn what has created most recent trends) innovative (to learn where new ideas have come from and what is being done on the cutting edge) and last but not least GOOD! (basically so it's listenable)

I know endless debates about what is good or innovative etc can be had, hell, you can even argue what those very words mean! But regardless, please list any and all albums that you think qualify as good examples of the traits I mention. If you can think of albums that are quite arguably all 3, so much the better.

Finally as I mentioned above the focus is on recent music BUT I will not say no to a good suggestion that's older, especially if you make a convincing case as to why it's worth listening to.

Thanks guys!

Is this forum nothing but an echo chamber for snarky jerks who should do something better with their time? I intentionally did not specify genres because I wanted to let people approach the question however they wanted.

Your question is huge. Why not start with websites like pitchfork or albumoftheyear or bandcamp or disconaivete or prettymuchamazing or soundcloud? See what's popular; see what's critically regarded.

Leonin was the first composer (or at least the first we can identify by name) to make use of polyphony. Not only did it change the landscape of Western music forever it's also heartbreakingly beautiful

This does predate the "last decade"

Sorry

Here's one that's recent. Who can say if it's going to be influential or if it's pioneering but I certainly think the quality of her music is impressive

Lucy Claire

You can check her stuff out on Spotify and Bandcamp

I definitely think Can is much more timeless than Silver Apples. Silver Apples is great but it obviously falls in that psychedelic 60's sound. Can on the other hand, really does seem to me like it could be 96 2006 or 2016.
