In my small experience with Beefheart I think his voice is his most appealing factor, I was blown away the first time I heard Frownland (the song, not the member) because of just how much I loved his voice.

Have you heard Station to Station? There are a couple really good ones on there that show he can sing.

I'm sure you can all guess how I feel about Beefheart's inclusion in this thread.

Jimi Hendrix is another one of the better examples.

He seems like he has a pretty good range. Just think of a song like "Golden Years"—lots highs and lots of lows. And he definitely has a pleasant voice, or else he wouldn't have had so many vocalists in the 80s clearly drawing influence from him.

Jim Morrison? He's expressive and very skilled in that regard, but he does have a kind of limited range.

No but I'll give it a listen and get back at you.

You don't necessarily need to have a pleasant voice to be an influential artist and Golden years I've heard and that song is not vocally impressive to me, Young Americans impresses me more but like Golden years in those ones he gets a lot of help from his back up singers.

The loneliest guy to me shows off his bare vocals and in it he kinda struggles with the high range he wants his vocals to be.

You can tell cause in order to hit that high range at the beginning of the verse he has to lower his volume. On the other hand If you listen to space oddity for exmpl, in that song he found a perfect range that compliments his voice. I think the songs he made as Ziggy fitted more effortlessly into his tone of vocals.

Again, I think he's a great singer who knows how to work around his limitations but his singing voice is not extraordinary.

I dont know if it's entirely representative of her talents but her voice just seems to be so awful in most live performances. Especially in this video where I recall viewing on tv. I mean really just listen to her on here holy fuc
