Musical Styles People Hate, But You Love

Brostep, and maybe Crunk/Crunkcore

Stephen 06-15-2016 05:12 PM

Not much love for jazz fusion around here.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-15-2016 05:28 PM

I wouldn't say I "like" nu-metal but I love Deftones and System of a Down (even though I would never call them nu-metal, that seems to be their label) and I like some Slipknot too.

Breakcore is great!

Couldn't you answer this question with literally any genre?

Not enough people enjoy free jazz and can't wrap their heads around it unless they see it performed live.

I have no sex song.

Janszoon 06-15-2016 10:40 PM

I love grindcore and powerviolence but some people don't.

Some people are just wrong.

I also enjoy both power violence and grindcore....as well as noisecore, power electronics, death industrial, and harsh noise.

Some people are just weak.

Goofle 06-16-2016 08:47 AM

I love lolicore. Some people have no lol

It took me a lot of tries to get into both of these genres, but once you're in, there's no going back.

grindy 06-16-2016 09:18 AM

Nobody seems to really be into Zeuhl. (Well, apart from Frown and Paul.).
Which is a shame because it's an awesome and all around epic genre.

Inna Selez 06-16-2016 10:10 AM

Huh, 75% people listening music which is promoted on TV and radio, 20% also knows rock, jazz, rap, classic and edm. All other genres and subgenres known and are listened by small group of people.

Do they make free smooth jazz or smooth free jazz?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-16-2016 10:57 AM

This jazz ain't free.

I wouldn't know if this is a joke or not, but I don't think free jazz can be that smooth unless you wing it. I mean, free jazz is too hyperactive.

That disconnect is precisely why I want to hear it.

The only Zeuhl band I know is Magma and I like them. Recommend me some others and I'll check them out.

Heck, I never said I didn't want to hear it. In fact, I'd love it if somebody could pull that off. And I might now a guy who could.

This guy puts together really unique jazz. It's mostly avant-garde, but he has an acid/nu jazz/instrumental hip hop album with some very unique features. I'm probably overrating him, but I honeslty think he's got as close of a chance as any good jazz musician of the modern era.

Mondo Bungle 06-16-2016 12:10 PM

No one's into zeuhl metal around here, granted it just came about a few months ago and there's only one album but it's just about everything the world needs. https://vaultsofzin.bandcamp.com/

I'm a strong advocate of acid house, 80s disco/post-disco, and semi truckloads of other general 80s and 90s techno/electronic/dance.

Justthefacts 06-16-2016 12:13 PM

Soft grunge gets no appreciation around here.

Shub-Niggurath is some amazing stuff and so is Ruins (which I suspect you might have heard already knowing you).

Everything Tatsuya Yoshida touches is gold, so check out some Ruins and Koenji Hyakkei. Start with Ruins' "Mandala 2000 / Live at the Kichijoji Mandala II" and KH's "II" (aka "Second" aka "Viva Koenji".
Also check out "Les Morts Vont Vite" by Shub Niggurath. Unique, dark take on the genre. Another fun oldie is "Eros" by Dün. It's pretty much "just" AvantProg, but with strong zeuhl influences.
A great newer album is "Ih" (aka "Fanfare Du Chaos") by Rhun. One of the best albums of the 2010s in any genre.
Let's leave it at that for the moment.

Ok, I'll put some of this in my ear holes.

JGuy Grungeman 06-17-2016 10:10 AM

I don't think I've heard any Zeuhl yet. I guess I'll try some out today.

This is as good a starting place as any

JGuy Grungeman 06-17-2016 10:16 AM

Yeah, I've theorized they're pretty much the "essential" zeuhl band.

Nu Metal gets a lot of hate these days despite it being huge in the late 90s and early 2000s. And I like it.

Currently listening to this and it sounds like why prog was invented in the first place. Somehow minimalistic and apocalyptic at the same time. **** yes. If all of the album is this cool then Magma might just put Can to shame as Germany's top prog export.
