25 Of Ur Best (Non-2016) Records You've Heard this year

The pile of trash hurled at me as a result of me posting records I listened to in 2015 and that I came to appreciate, but that weren't specifically released in that year, was horrendous.

Therefore this thread's dedicated to all the records made from 2015 and past that you'd put in your own favorites list. Cause let's be honest for me at least I tend to pursue records always made in prior years and never actually the year I exist on presently, 2016 especially. That's not to say this year's lacking good music.
btw it can be a top 50's list if you find that more desirable

No particular order yet, that's for later this year. Except the last five.

The Flaming Lips - The Terror
Ty Segall Band - Slaugherhouse
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part
LCD Soundsystem - The Long Goodbye (Live at MSG)
The Good Life - Novena on A Nocturn
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedala
The Elected - Sun, Sun, Sun
Busdriver - Temporary Forever
The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike
SBTRKT - SBTRKT
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Ghostface Killah - Fishscales
Rilo Kiley - The Execution Of All Things
Scarface - The Fix
Woods - At Rear House
Jamie xx - In Colour
MF Doom - Live From Planet X
Battles - Mirrored
Neko Case - Middle Cyclone
The Decemberists - Castaways & Cutouts
The Drones - Gala Mill

No, like a best of 2016 list so far but of every year prior. Name me your favorite bands or records you've come to appreciate this year that you've managed to not listen to until 2016.

Go.

Frownland 08-29-2016 11:51 PM

I discovered Tim Buckley this year and I'm pretty pleased about that.

Justthefacts 08-29-2016 11:56 PM

I discovered Sunn O)))

Key 08-30-2016 12:05 AM

Here's the best list I could come up with:

Radiohead
The Bends
OK Computer
Kid A
Hail To The Thief
In Rainbows
Amnesiac
Pablo Honey

Tim Buckley
Lorca
Sefronia
Starsailor

Wolves In Sheepskin
A Van Per Oven
Lizard of Ox

Trouble Salad
Besvær Salat
Amongst The Pines, Beside The Stream
Fuzz
Planetary Collision
Disgust The Soundtrack

Chiodos - Devil
I Hear Sirens - Between Consciousness and Sleep
Ruby My Dear - Form
Ruby My Dear - Remains of Shapes to Come
Anathema - Distant Satellites
Katatonia - Dead End Kings
pg.lost - In Never Out

https://img.discogs.com/FNN5kKErqamV...-7144.jpeg.jpg
Igorrr & Ruby My Dear ‎– Maigre (2014)

Easily the best thing that has gotten some heavy rotation this year is Igorrr & Ruby My Dear's Maigre EP. I hadn't realized how much I liked this type of stuff at least until the middle or end of last year.

I've been having a huge Radiohead kick this year as well, but I remember last year I was really into Frown's and Mondo's stuff, and that's really gotten me into some weird **** this year that wasn't released this year. They make the list strictly for that reason.

Key 08-30-2016 12:06 AM

Also, not a lot of the items I listed would make my favorites list because I was confused as to how this thread works. My favorites list would be far different.

Key 08-30-2016 12:19 AM

My favorites list for albums that weren't released in 2016 would look something like...

1.
https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a1111034929_16.jpg
pg.lost - Key (2012)

2. Riverside: Love, Fear and the Time Machine
3. Storm Corrosion: Storm Corrosion
4. Anathema: Weather Systems
5. Alesana: Confessions
6. A Swarm of The Sun: The Rifts
7. The Best Pessimist: I Just Want To Be Your Everything
8. I Hear Sirens: Beyond The Sea, Beneath The Sky
9. This Town Needs Guns: Animals
10. Giraffes? Giraffes!: Pink Magick
11. Lamb of God: Ashes of the Wake
12. Myrath: Tales of the Sands
13. Nick Drake: Five Leaves Left
14. Nick Drake: Bryter Layter
15. Nick Drake: Pink Moon
16. Ef: Delusions of Grandeur
17. Chiodos: Illuminaudio
18. The Pineapple Thief: Variations On A Dream
19. The Pineapple Thief: What We Have Sown
20. Opeth: Pale Communion
21. Trouble Salad: Besvær Salat
22. Radiohead: Kid A
23. Radiohead: Ok Computer
24. Radiohead: Amnesiac
25. Sigur Ros: Valtari

That's 25, but I could easily do 25, if not 50 more. My favorites list could possibly get close to 150 or 200 if I tried hard enough. But that'll do it for now.

You listen to a lot of hip hop which is not something I've ever really been able to get into, minus Kendrick Lamar. Though, I've never listened to Nick Cave, I imagine that's something I should do.

Aight, but I can't promise I'll love it. Although...the first track on No More Shall We Part is quite good. Is this going to be me finding my love of Radiohead all over again? What are you doing to me Justthefacts? WHY HAVE I BEEN MISSING ALL THIS GOOD MUSIC.

I used to make this type of list at the end of each year. It's often more telling of someone's tastes rather than focusing on just a single year's best - which too often are predicable and boring as a result of buzz and such. Granted, there's often a fair amount of catch-up from the previous year, as evidenced by the many 2015 albums in my list. Here are my 24 favorites so far, in alphabetical order:

A Frames - A Frames 2 (2003)
Acid Baby Jesus - Selected Recordings (2014)
The Auteurs - New Wave (1993)
Caustic Resin - The Medicine Is All Gone (1998)
Czarface - Czarface (2013)
Czarface - Every Hero Needs a Villain (2015)
Charles Howl - Sir Vices (2015)
Devo - Duty Now for the Future (1979)
The Flaming Lips - The Terror (2013)
Four Tet - Pink (2012)
Helvetia - Nothing in Rambling (2012)
Life Stinks - You'll Never Make It (2015)
Pinecones - Sings for You Now (2014)
Plat - Compulsion (2005)
Rival Consoles - Howl (2015)
Seam - The Problem With Me (1993)
Seam - The Pace Is Glacial (1998)
Soft Kill - Heresy (2015)
NEU! - NEU! (1972)
New Gum Sarn - New Gold Mountain (2015)
Timmy's Organism - Heartless Heathen (2015)
Barry Uhl - The Stargazer's Bible (2015)
White Fence - Live in San Francisco (2013)
Young Rival - Interior Light (2015)

No that's cool :p

Although a few people seem to like that Disgust album and I can't justify why anyone would or find anything listenable about any of it. It's pretty much some of the worst stuff I've ever heard. So I guess it's my Metal Machine Music

Well you also have to remember that you're your own worst enemy. I was surprised to see the ratings you gave on my albums since I think a lot of my stuff is super mediocre. Same thing when I write articles, I find more mistakes with my stuff than other people do, but that's the natural way of creating art.

Mondo Bungle 09-01-2016 07:48 PM

Some if it is pretty mediocre, you're right. I just don't really give out ratings less than a 5/10, ****'s gotta be genuinely bad for that, and all yours still had hints of things liked even at the lowest.

I think Disgust is genuinely bad though and give it like a 2/10 because the opener is almost listenable. If you like that I did a sequel and I think it's infinitely better.
