It was hot as balls yesterday, and on my walk to the liquor store, I gave this a listen while smoking a joint, and it was a damn near perfect soundtrack for that. Not much else to say about it apart from it being some hard rocking and rad stoner metal that doesnt try to reinvent the wheel and that's okay. The echoes of Layne Staley in the vox were a welcome addition. 7/10

I'm going to assume you listened on Spotify. What did you think of the last track? It's a bit more experimental in nature.

Sitting somewhere in time (sound-wise) between Monster Magnet, Clutch, etc. and the territory of Mastodon or maybe Baroness circa 2017, there's a lot to like about the psychedelic rumblings of Eternal Elysium. They've got plenty of good ideas: almost midway through 'Splendid, Selfish Woman', for instance, they take a trippy little detour with some of the talk-box wah-wahing that put Alice In Chains on the map back in 1990.

I saw some chatter online comparing them to early Sabbath or Flower Travellin' Band, but in my opinion they have more in common with the modern acts I listed. To that end, I don't think there's some "it" factor that really elevates them above their peers. It takes some serious deviation to beat the masters at their own game...but this was still a very enjoyable experience and a great recommendation for sludge / stoner enthusiasts.

7.5 out of 10

Good review.

Eternal Elysium - Spiritualized D

I litened to this album twice. It grew on me a bit but didn't really impress me as being anything top-notch for the genre.
I thought there were some above-average moments but mostly I thought it sounded rather typical for the "Stoner" genre. Nothing really jumped out and impressed me or left me thinking It was something unusually interesting.
Some interesting riffs and jams, some good, heavy-psych, and some (like the last track) I didn't care for.
Like others in the club, I definitely heard the Layne Staley/Alice in Chains influence in various spots throughout the album (not sure if that influence helped or hurt the album, though.)
Not bad, not great, but a decent, listenable effort.

7/10

It was a nice window into their Japanese influence, could have been a Sun City Girls song tbh. I thought that it overstayed its welcome though.

Everyone check out the OP for the details for round two...

I'd like to change my album from Brokespeak to Afelan by Mdou Moctar.

You can. I'll add you to the list.
Not quite sure what's unclear; it's not that complicated. But if you have questions, fire away. We're currently doing the last album in round one, which is Rjinn's choice, Choose Your Weapon by Hiatus Kaiyote. Reviews or thoughts on that need to be in by Saturday, Sunday at the latest. We'll then be starting a whole new round from the beginning.
