The participation was not worth the work. I had like 3 responses the 3rd week. TBH I felt ****ty about putting that much effort into something with little participation. In hindsight I shouldn't have cared.

When most of the recs are by indie white people rec'ing music appreciated by indie white people it gets kind of boring. Even if there was some genre variety there wasn't much variety in who the music was supposed to appeal to.

I rec'd something I was into at the time and was happy to, but when I listened to that first mixtape it just felt like a circle jerk for people who were talking to each other and no one else.

It didn't matter what type of music or if it was all similar, just that people were actually uploading and sending me the submissions. I got about 10 each week that were just a PM saying "yo add this song" with nothing else.

Honestly if would probably be better just to pick a premade compilation from youtube or spotify and talk about that since so many exist.
