Blur (album, American, quote, band, songs)

bump.

so, coxon and albarn got on stage together at the nme awards for the first time in 9 years and performed This Is A Low. Excellent choice of song, shows a mature direction (as they would have to take at this point) but still doesn't give too much away about what new form they'll be taking.

I've only seen shaky cameraphone footage from the event, and I've already prerecorded the awards show just for that moment. I don't care what Bernard Butler says, the reformation of Blur will not simply be dragging britpop out... Blur were so much more than that.

Blur's reunion is the musical event I look forward the most 2009. Do you reckon there will be an album this year or next?

i personally like their self titled pretty good, bettlebum is a bitching track. you should really start with gorillaz though

I'm not sure about a new album, they seemed to be pretty focused around just touring now. But Albarn has always been restless when it comes to musical projects, so I can't imagine him wanting to simply rest on the old material.

And their self titled ranks pretty high with me aswell. I'd personally have to say

1. Modern Life Is Rubbish
2. Think Tank
3. Blur
4. Parklife
5. 13
6. Great Escape

I know Think Tank is pretty controversial... but what ygonna do.

I've said this already but I grew up with the band and finally got to see the live!!... on the Think Tank tour

Albarn is doing great behind the scenes, he is far too porky for his on-stage theatrics now, especially when you are playing songs like 'Caravan'.

I am not too bothered about the reunion business (I stress that word), they were really savvy with the banners on Last.fm and ludicrous ticket prices.
It's a shame Graham Coxon went soft in his solo work and his label Transcopic folded too, they put out some good albums.

I just don't see how a new album could possibly be anything but horrible, they will have to work miracles and not let Albarn dominate the recording process.

I absolutely love Think Tank, and I've never understood why people dislike it. Obviously it's more Albarn than Blur as a band, but I don't think that necessarily makes it awful. Crazy Beat was just pure silliness though.

i think that's mainly what i remember that album for, not good.

Favourite Blur song? Mine is (not just being a smart arse) the B-side Mixed Up. Oh and Chemical World. If you haven't got the B-side thing I posted Wolf go back a couple of pages it's there somewhere

God, it's so annoying when they don't include singles and b-sides on the albums, especially in the 60s. Why do they bother with the single format at all?

Aww he's not that porky more old then anything, but I would of love to have seen them around 93, 94 thats when I think they were the most energetic live. As seen on the documentry Starshaped. Around that time they werent too pop or too 'baggy' just right for me.

i heartily agree, unfortunately those days are long gone... I do appreciate how Blur (unlike 'the other band') evolved and broadened their sound, but 92-94 was their ideological/songwriting peak.
Their future as a recording group is only going to be conjecture at this point but I'm not getting my hopes up... the more I think about it there is a degree of truth to what that bloke from Suede said, a band is characterised by their heyday/creative peak... it's like the Smiths reforming, nobody wants that do they? But then again with Blur it's been more of an indefinite vacation rather than a proper break-up
