Blur
what album should i start with?
|
Take "Parklife"...
|
Modern Life Is Rubbish
By a mile |
or you could just get the greatest hits
|
i hate greatest hits albums
|
well the sound changes quite a lot ...
Britpoppy Blur go for Parklife Indielectro Blur go for Think Tank |
isnt Think Tank supposed to suck
what about the s/t album or the great escape? |
Quote:
Think Tank is Damon Albarn up his own backside , The Great Escape is Parklife part 2 only rubbish. Their debut album sounds a bit like Oasis ironically |

Nevertheless, I think "Parklife" is a good album. |
Heh, Blur. Only album I've listened to was Park Life and I didn't like it enough to continue buying their stuff . . . .
|
I have a soft spot for Blur. I think my favourite is THE GREAT ESCAPE. As urban says it's PARKLIFE part 2 but apart from the deplorable COUNTRY HOUSE, there is a lot of good stuff on there. Kudos to Albarn for trying something different with each new project. I have'nt heard MODERN LIFE IS RUBBISH for years!
|
Honestly, I'd go with the greatest hits collection as well.
It's definitely one of those rare collections that does indeed serve its purpose of being the perfect starting point for newcomers. |
After watching Southland Tales, I've been listening to Tender over and over. Such a great song.

Props to Lucifer Sam for helping me find this thread.
I first came across Blur while watching a documentary on British indie, at first I thought they were nothing special then I watched it again got Girls & Boys stuck in my head, I downloaded Parklife and instantly became a fan. I love how they managed to break away from Britpop and into a more lofi alternative sound mixed into other genre's unlike Oasis. I'd also they were they best British band of the 90's, how many other bands managed to release that many great albums during the decade? I'm really happy to see that they are getting back together again and i'm keeping my fingers crossed for a new album. Graham Coxon is one of my favorite guitarists, I feel he's abit underrated. I remember Stephen Street once said "I had the great pleasure of working with the Smiths and working with someone as amazing as Johnny Marr and I never thought I'd meet anyone as good until I met Graham." And Damon Albarn is one of my musical hero's he has a great voice and lyrics, also his work outside of Blur alone proves that he's more than a pretty face. I find it pretty sad that they are not really known in America considering most of what America loves are good pop songs and that's what their first 4 albums are nothing but ****ing great pop. My fav Blur albums in order: Modern Life is Rubbish Parklife Blur 13 The Great Escape Leisure Think Tank My top 20 Blur tracks: 1.For Tomorrow 2.Tender 3.Chemical World 4.Parklife 5.Youre So Great 6.Girls & Boys 7.Popscene 8.On Your Own 9.Tracy Jacks 10.Coffee & TV 11.Wear Me Down 12.Beetlebum 13.The Universal 14.Music Is My Radar 15.Top Man 16.End of a Century 17.To the End 18.Best Days 19.She's So High 20.Sunday Sunday |

I find Girls & Boys really ****ing irratating but do like End of a Century and Trimm Trabb. |
I grew up with Blur, and along with a variety of others they're partly responsible for shaping my taste in music today. So, yeah, I do love them (particularly Modern Life..., Parklife, the Great Escape and 13). That said I've been cutting down on them a bit in recent months, but I'm sure I'll get back to thinking they're the dogs bollocks in future.

I kind of like that song, too...
(Hangs head in shame) |
Hmm. I also think "Country House" is one of their better songs.
"Pop Scene" and "Yuko & Hiro" are far and away their best songs, though. |
I recently got a 4 dics version of Parklife and I must say the acoustic version of For Tomorrow is just a giant eargasm. Anyone else seen Starshaped? Its a must watch for a Blur fan
|
anyone know where I can get Modern Life Is Rubbish?
I cant find it anywhere... 13 is my fav btw.. I feel so proud to be a brit due to all the amazing music that comes out of our country... the Montreal music scene is brill too tho |
Blur have gotten back together and will be playing Hyde Park in London on July 3
|
Aye, this came out a couple of days ago...and I shall be there.
|
God damn it i'd give my right arm to go :,(
|
I also happen to think Country House is one of Blur's strongest tunes, it pretty much is the perfect pop song.
As for the rest of their back catalogue... as i've grown up and my taste has evolved i've kind of moved away from Britpop, i do tend to think blur are overrated these days. I much prefer their later stuff too. I think people have a soft spot for them because they are such a quintessentially english band. |

Here ya go, I'll be expecting my tickets by the end of the month...... anyway Watch Blur speak about their comeback gig in video interview | News | NME.COM *this news has really made my week |
yeah that reunion was fast work wasn't it? Years of on/off speculation and within a few days of the news, a banner for a Hyde Park extravaganza pops up on my Last.fm. I'm only bitter because i'm far too scared of malevolent, psychopathic, flesh eating crowds that all want me dead to go
and i wouldn't bother Kenny they'll do a new album and at least a US pit-stop... And in response to Country House being their best song that's very nice but Chemical World rOcKz harder |
If they record some new material it had better be a Blur the band type album & not some Albarn ego wank sub Gorillaz shit.
