All the guys from Dragonforce. I don't so much hate them as I just hate Dragonforce, but seeing as they are Dragonforce I can't help but hate them individually. They make bargain basement power metal that embarasses a genre that's already pretty goofy. So **** them.

No. I (watching it live) and a lot of the performers got caught up in the emotions and magnitude of the event. It happens. Not corny at all you heartless, cynical bastard.

Sucks that so many people actually like catchy, well crafted songs, with crunchy guitars, aggressive drumming, and a band that actually enjoys themselves on stage - and puts on fun shows that harken back to the golden age of 70s arena rock.

And that so many of them are the same age as a lot of you people here who are currently dissing them.

It really does suck because it means that I'm exposed to Foo Fighters when someone puts on rock radio. Imagine if Wolves in Sheepskin ruled the radio? What that would be like for you, Foo Fighters is for me. Put some ointment on your ass to cool the hurt.

I'm not the one hurting. You are the one that hates (and is envious of) Dave Grohl, and The Foo Fighters' success.

I'm going to listen to the Bob Mould and Josh Homme inspired Wasting Light now. Later tater.

If you didn't take my Dave Grohl hate personally, you wouldn't have relied on a bandwagon argument to defend your taste. Honestly you of all people should be critical of them too, because they played a large role in laying the groundwork for the mediocre and lackluster mainstream rock scene that we have today when it used to be so much more exciting. Rock bands can't be creative and as successful as Foo Fighters because record companies won't put capital on something that isn't safe.

Unless you think it's still thriving or something, in which case it might be time for your meds.

I have no doubt that they do. I know I've listened to a Foo Fighters album, probably "That One Foo Fighters Album". But I know precious little else because nothing makes me want to.

It's just cool stuff to have on in the background while I'm working on the PC. I wouldn't sit in a recliner with the lights dimmed and headphones on listening to FF.

Just because you can't relate, doesn't make it bad.

I saw Queen play the Boston Garden in front of 18,000 frenzied fans on their News of the World tour in 1977, at the peak of their popularity in the US. I can still remember it vividly 40 years later. Incredibly amazing performance, lighting and effects like you wouldn't believe, and hearing Freddie Mercury in the flesh gave me goosebumps over, and over again. The dude was even better than what people say - both as a vocalists and a showman.

Absolute highlight: Bohemian Rhapsody.

During the acapella vocal section the band left the stage and the lights dimmed. The pre-recorded tape played while the stage filled with dry ice. Then BAM!!! Lights come up and May, Deacon, and Taylor are tearing up the heavy section while the crowd is going completely bonkers.

But where's Freddie? His part is coming up and he's not on stage yet. WTF?

Then, right on cue, he comes shooting straight up from out of the fog, center stage right up front and :

"So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?
So you think you can love me and leave me to die?"

The delirious crowd somehow managed to reach another level of absolute frenzy, myself and my buds included. The high from the show lasted for hours. (and this was without acid or ecstacy - just pure adrenaline)

TL-DR

Just because you can't relate, doesn't make it bad.

Frownland 08-22-2017 03:59 PM

"Just because you can't relate, doesn't make it bad."

Given that "bad" is a subjective term, it actually does.

Hey Linda, want some sushi?
No, I don't like it.
Have you ever tried it?
No.

(completely lame, pompous, and pretensious retort BTW.)

No need for insults just because we disagree, Chula.

You can think a band sucks without seeing them live in the same way that Linda would be justified if the smell of sushi made her gag. If I can't relate to music and that plays a part in why I think it's bad, it's bad. And that's inarguable because of the nature of subjectivity. I already know you agree with me on this because it's actually a big component of your own argument if you look closely.

Trouble is, you're making a circular argument here. If someone doesn't like a band, telling them how great they were when you saw them is not likely to make them suddenly like them. If anything, it will probably make them get even deeper entrenched in their dislike of them.

Were I to relate to Frown, Batty or Elph, or anyone else who hates them, how great Marillion were on their Fugazi tour, do you think that would make them suddenly say "Oh yeah! I see it now! They're a great band!"?

And I do have to agree with Frown: bad is a subjective word, except maybe when applied to intrinsically bad things like murder or racism or slavery.

Elph was dissing on 70s arena rock - not any specific band. Elph didn't experience 70s arena rock. I was relating a 70s arena rock experience.

Yeah, I get that. But then you went on about Queen, which is not likely to change his mind, or that of anyone else who doesn't like that sort of music. I'm just saying that, band or genre or time era, if someone has no interest in or a problem with something you won't change their mind by quoting your enjoyment of it. It would be like me saying "I hate baseball" and you saying "But look at all the home runs such and such got," or "I saw the Cubs in '94 and it was a great game!" I just wouldn't care, and I'm sure Elph doesn't care for your recollections. That's all I'm saying. You can't change someone's stance on something by recounting your fond memories of it.

You can keep doing that; it's your prerogative. I'm just saying you'll be wasting your time, is all.
