Hey Linda, want some sushi?
No, I don't like it.
Have you ever tried it?
No.

(completely lame, pompous, and pretensious retort BTW.)

No need for insults just because we disagree, Chula.

You can think a band sucks without seeing them live in the same way that Linda would be justified if the smell of sushi made her gag. If I can't relate to music and that plays a part in why I think it's bad, it's bad. And that's inarguable because of the nature of subjectivity. I already know you agree with me on this because it's actually a big component of your own argument if you look closely.

I saw Queen play <snip>
Trouble is, you're making a circular argument here. If someone doesn't like a band, telling them how great they were when you saw them is not likely to make them suddenly like them. If anything, it will probably make them get even deeper entrenched in their dislike of them.

Were I to relate to Frown, Batty or Elph, or anyone else who hates them, how great Marillion were on their Fugazi tour, do you think that would make them suddenly say "Oh yeah! I see it now! They're a great band!"?

And I do have to agree with Frown: bad is a subjective word, except maybe when applied to intrinsically bad things like murder or racism or slavery.

Some might argue that there's a charm to that though.

Elph was dissing on 70s arena rock - not any specific band. Elph didn't experience 70s arena rock. I was relating a 70s arena rock experience.

Yeah, I get that. But then you went on about Queen, which is not likely to change his mind, or that of anyone else who doesn't like that sort of music. I'm just saying that, band or genre or time era, if someone has no interest in or a problem with something you won't change their mind by quoting your enjoyment of it. It would be like me saying "I hate baseball" and you saying "But look at all the home runs such and such got," or "I saw the Cubs in '94 and it was a great game!" I just wouldn't care, and I'm sure Elph doesn't care for your recollections. That's all I'm saying. You can't change someone's stance on something by recounting your fond memories of it.

You can keep doing that; it's your prerogative. I'm just saying you'll be wasting your time, is all.
