Hardcore = Indie
Got it.

Frownland 06-20-2017 01:25 PM

Indie is just as bad as screamo and techno.

grindy 06-20-2017 01:31 PM

Reggae might be the most boring actually.

Chula Vista 06-20-2017 01:41 PM

Pretty much anything after we got to 25 supposedly different rock genres.

Jeez. (old man moment)

Rock
Hard Rock
Heavy Metal
Blues
Swing Blues
Country
Pop/Country
Fusion
Rock/Fusion
Jazz
Jazz/Fusion
Classical
Swing
Flamenco
Carnatic
Pop
Experimental
Folk

I fully realize I'm missing a bunch of major genres. But point being....

The tag Black Metal makes me giggle. What exactly does it mean? Where are the lines drawn? Who makes the determination?

Heavy Metal fans will lisen to "Black Metal" bands without the stupid name tag.

Frownland 06-20-2017 01:43 PM

Jazz and folk are my favourite rock subgenres.

grindy 06-20-2017 01:44 PM

Black Metal has an incredibly easy to pin down sound.

So all of those are the most boring genre of music?

Actually I'm with Chula on this one. BM might as well be glam metal.

grindy 06-20-2017 01:49 PM

Everyone knows that there are just two types of music: Sound music and silent compositions. And since 4'33'' isn't music, as everyone knows, there's just one. And it's boring.

MicShazam 06-20-2017 01:53 PM

Wasn't Varg Vikernes in Twisted Sister? I can't tell any of these guys apart. They're all hairy and they frighten me.

Varg Vikernes never even made music because he was too busy burning down churches. Plus he's not popular and he smells bad. Don't believe me? Ask anyone on the street who Varg Vikernes is.

I asked some guy on the street wearing corpse paint and he knows who Varg is. What now?

At least the original hardcore bands. Pioneering an independent DIY spirit, and forming own record labels such as SST and Dischord, is the very definition of indie. I refuse to think of indie by itself as a sound.

Especially since there's almost always a much better way to describe it.

Unfortunately there's too many people who forget that indie is short for something.

Frownland 06-20-2017 02:44 PM

Indigo?

Bingo!

Does anyone consider bands who were released on I.R.S. Records as indie? I.R.S. (a.k.a. International Record Syndicate) had a pretty impressive rooster during the 80s. The Bangles, The Go-Go's, R.E.M., FYC, The Fall, et al.

Pop punk is boring.

So is most modern country.

And a lot of back pack rappers are boring. Like, I get it, they have a complex technical ability but a basic ass one tone delivery and uninspired rhyme schemes. Much rather listen to some mumbler rap over that. At least they put effort into their terrible lyrics while these mother ****ers sound like they are reading them out for a school project. Necro.

Which backpackers are you talking about specifically?

Can't argue with this one. Especially drone.

Ah yes that boring, undynamic drone music.

.

MicShazam 06-21-2017 09:00 AM

I think the Lou Reed album will give me a headache if I continue listening to it. The two top ones just bored me after a while. However... not entirely opposed to the Henry Flynt thing. I like the way it sounds, which is a good starting point.

Necro. A lot of Immortal Technique sadly. People along that line. I can't remember too many other names because I never cared to look up the artists of boring songs. I like El P, Aesop Rock, Cage, Sadistik, Idea, people like that even though some of them kind of follow the same tropes, but they know how to keep it interesting. I think older Aesop Rock definitely fits. He had a lot of interesting beats but I think the over all lack of proper mixing and mastering kind of ruined any bit of potential I heard. Made it boring. Or old school Wrekonize because he was a huge back packer before he became the more poppy singy Wrekonize of Mayday.

priestofsyrinx2112 06-24-2017 09:12 PM

Pop.... Unless you find extreme irritation exciting!

I'm not particularly familiar with Flynt's work but what I have heard of his has fascinated me. Kind of in the middle of noise music and "minimalism", sometimes being really screechy violin stuff which is fun and other times being soothing drone stuff, it's cool!

Don't you realise that Varg burning down churches IS him making music? Have you never listened to The Burning of Our Lady of Mercy, 29 Sulferstrasse? It's pure expressionism in its most savage form, man!

Oh, and emo.
Whine whine whine, life is so hard, I hate everyone, buy my music.
**** off.

Frownland 06-25-2017 01:39 PM

Nah, emo is incredibly dynamic as a genre, even though people equate it to sad pop punk.
