I'm flabbergasted that anyone would recommend Ayreon to Frown. They are everything he hates about prog. You might as well recommend the new Marillion album to him! There is zero, repeat zero possibility he will find anything good about it. Put it this way: I know Ayreon (though I haven't heard this one) and I like them. Therefore, by default, Frown will hate them. There's just no way. You're wasting your time.

Could I like them? I'm not Frown but I at least have the ability to like melodic lame metal.

I don't know, man. I mean, maybe ironically? But I doubt you'd enjoy them. They're full of multi-part suite songs (one of their albums is actually divided into days) and there's a lot of the prog metal wankery you hate going on, but maybe you'd enjoy laughing at them. Stranger things have happened, I guess. I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but try these maybe.

These songs may not even the best or most representative of the band. Mord seems to be a bigger fan and would presumably know much better what to recommend to you. But this will give you an idea.

I liked the first of those four. A bit less sold on the other three, but generally speaking, I seem to like these somewhat better than anything on the new album (not that I'm very familiar with that one either). No wait, I don't like the last on the list much actually. Mostly because of the singers that perform on it.

Hey, don't say I didn't call it. Again, these could be the worst Aryeon songs to get someone into the band. I'm not a huge fan. Mord would be your man if you want to give it another try, but knowing you, I'd say they're not for you.

I think the fact that they seem to be the one metal band Mord likes says a lot.

Ah they're not really metal though are they? More prog rock with occasional metal flurries.
