Nothing to see here, move along
Post the most inoffensive, unremarkable music you can think of.
Not good music. Not bad music. Just dull, middle of the road adequacy. This is a really boring idea. Which is fitting, because I'm feeling really bored and unenthusiastic today. Keep my boring Friday rolling and bring on the vanilla! |
I wanted to post something from Matchbox 20 but then I got worried I might accidentally play a few seconds of one of their songs.
|
I love that U2 song.
|
Honestly this could probably apply to any Katatonia album post-2006 but this was the first one where I listened to it and honestly couldn't remember a single thing about it. |
I think I could post a zillion songs for this category. Don't even know where to start.
|
Pretty much any Springsteen. There I said it.

They're the essence of a vanilla band to me. Along with R.E.M., Coldplay and Aerosmith they're like the big 4 of "Eh, it's allright, I guess." |
Just happened to hear this this morning. The audio equivalent of eating a Nilla wafer:
|
There's at least 50 contemporary pop clichés rolled into one song there.
I just realize how Bieber's singing voice isn't really annoying as much as just oddly bland and... "normal" sounding. |

Anything by Norah Jones. In high school, our dance teacher would always play it during warm-ups and it drove me crazy.
I hate this song. It makes me want to launch myself into an active volcano. |
Ugh Norah Jones for sure. After I've started listening to various vocal jazz divas, it's become very clear just how bland Norah is. If I ever have trouble sleeping, she'd probably do the trick. It's jazz for people who absolutely have no interest in jazz whatsoever.
EDIT: Here's an example of a song in a similar style to a lot of what Norah Jones did in the beginning, but way more charismatic and, you know, not boring. |

I find them a pretty boring band though. Their debut was so disappointing to me since they had these great melodies and this great aesthetic, but at the same time, the singer was just a really weak version of a young King Diamond, without any of the vocal power. I wanted to like Ghost, but they fell flat from the start for me. Their other albums just moved even further away from what little I liked about them in the first place. |
I should have posted these guys first, because they really define the thread. Take Mastodon's sound and make it into the most forgettable music you can find.
|
i like baroness and ghost both quite a bit
i think bands like diiv and the rest of the urban outfitter-core dream pop scene are perfect for this thread. most people i talk to agree that all of the bands in the scene sound the same, but i guess that's what they like about it. it's like shoegaze if shoegaze totally lost any and all balls. |

I'm starting to lose interest in Ghost. They used to just grab me with their sound but nowadays I'm finding it hard to justify spinning any of their albums. Baroness are still great though.

I'm not so sure that's true. I'm really curious about what music you like now, so if you have a list or something... |

Can you believe they still play this **** on the radio?
|
when did this become the "frownland ****s on everything qwertyy likes" thread
|
Same time as it became the "Qwertyy realizes some of his taste sucks thread".
|
I like the Deftones song Knife Party a heck of a lot, but otherwise not really a band I'm too excited about. Small doses work well for me.
I see a lot of what has influenced my favorite band, Dir En Grey, in that Deftones song. That probably means Frownland would hate Dir En Grey too. In fact I suspect most people in here would hate them. |

King dull.

Staind is possibly even more dull than Nickelback and Creed.
Devin Townsend's various projects are always frustrating to me. I love his voice, hate his production style and find his compositions to sit somewhere in between. |

Basically, I'm a rock guy, mostly prog rock, mostly post-70s though I love Genesis with all my heart (shut up, Frown and Batty), also Marillion, Rush, later Yes (circa late 80s/90s), Floyd, Pendragon, Jadis, Arena, Balance of Power, Edenbridge, Within Temptation, Mostly Autumn, Epica, Alan Parsons Project, and a ton of others. Then there's melodic rock/metal/AOR as well as prog metal - Threshold, Shadow Gallery, Silent Edge, Ten, Boston, Journey, Houston, Work of Art, Fergie Frederiksen, Bon Jovi, and stuff like Dire Straits, Chris Rea, Tom Waits, Kate Bush, Judie Tzuke (as already mentioned), some early Chris de Burgh, Asia, Kamelot, Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Sabbath, a lot of classical, some Country (Emmylou/Crystal/Nanci Griffith/Steve Earle etc) some ambient, some electronic (Air, JMJ, Vangelis, CBL, Solar Fields etc) and probably a whole lot I've forgotten to include. Actually, no probably about it: that's just a tiny sample of the stuff I enjoy. What I do NOT enjoy, or listen to much if at all is hip-hop, punk, jazz, most pop (though some: Kylie is great) Noise rock, Experimental/Avant-Garde etc, not much soul (nothing against it; I just don't listen to it much) and reggae. And probably more that I can't think of. Like I say, boring. If you have any questions though, fire away. |
Dude you listen to a ****load of pop.

The only thing I downright dislike here is Bon Jovi. Oh and I forgot: I like a bit of classical too. Still a newbie, so mostly just Schoenberg. The only categories on this short list that I tend to stay away from would be AOR and country. What do you feel about music that would be classified as singer-songwriter or folk? And with folk I also mean very old traditional music, not just 60's Bob Dylan style folk. For example, I really like Loreena McKennitt. |

Should also add: Springsteen and Adams, though I lost interest in the latter after Waking Up the Neighbors; his previous albums were pretty good though, especially Reckless, Cuts Like a Knife and Into the Fire. Well, kind of. Also, this is not an opportunity for the rest of you to **** on my musical tastes: you're all well aware of them at this stage. This is purely for MicShazam's information, as he asked. Kindly **** off with your smart comments; that's like five years or more old by now. |
lol Springsteen. Adult contemporary whateverthe****.

I refuse suffer one second of Tom Waits. He is (for me) the epitome of of "nothing to see here, move along." That being said I do like The Shaggs. I think they more talented than Tom Waits.

As far as classical, well you can't go wrong with the greats: Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak, Liszt and so on. I'm really fond of Rachmaninoff and of course then there's Holst's epic The Planets Suite, which if you haven't heard, you have heard some of without knowing it. Like this: and this Folk is not generally my thing, though you can't diss Woody Guthrie. I'm fond of this guy too, god rest his soul |

As my current avatar would indicate, I like boring music too. Totally into this album of hers right now: |
