Husker Du's albums could do with it, given how tinny some of them sound - they're good albums for their time but the 80s mastering is pretty awful, at least on CD. Flip Your Wig is probably their only album that doesn't need it.

I'll be keeping my current version of New Day Rising. I think it sounds awesome.

Were the high pitched guitar solos with a slightly wah-wah overtone down to the pedal limitations at the time, or simply production fashion? I'd assume the latter.

And you'd be right. Listen to White Room by Cream or most of Hendrix's wah-wah work. Original Crybaby's were amazingly versatile.
