Difference between Pop Rap and Hip-hop? Search me: guess the former concentrates more on the melodies and has singing mixed in, from the little I've heard, but if hip-hop artists are said to “spit”, then Elizabeth Eden Harris, known professionally as CupcaKKe, certainly can do that with the best of them. Talk about anger! And you know what they say: hell hath no fury.... Seems to be more poppy all right, but the third track seems to lose something in volume or production, oddly; goes way way down. And the next one. This is annoying. I haven't touched the volume but I can barely hear these tracks now. Finally, by track SIX we're back to normal volume, but at this point I've lost interest. It really isn't that great anyway. ****ing producer should be shot.

Oh come on! Most of the Christian Metal I've listened to has turned out to be quite good really – Narnia, Theocracy, Jerusalem – better than listening to CCM anyway! These guys certainly have a sort of metalcore approach to their music, growly vocals and good shredding coupled with anthemic choruses and powerful blast beats. Some very good harmony guitar work on show here too. It's decent, but the tracks are slightly tending to blend all together, and I can't really point to one that I really like or even can identify. Well, “Half as Dead” is pretty good, and it's followed by “Cold Blood”, which I'd also class as a decent track.

The first track though to really stand out is “One Step Behind”, which is kind of a power ballad, though still with a lot of teeth, and in the end I'd have to say this is a pretty good album, but I've heard far better from this subgenre. Theocracy these guys are not.

There are like twenty-six tracks on this album, but luckily many of them are a minute or less, so it may not be as much of a slog as I had originally expected. Quite nice actually when it starts off. But it becomes hard to judge the tracks, since most are so short. Seems to be some female vocals here, though the artist is male. Some really annoying high-pitched vocals all but ruin “Feeling Pretty Good” which has a nice seventies soul feel to it, but “Bomba” is just an annoying mess. Generally speaking, I don't think I like this album. It's hard to follow, and the songs that are over three minutes – which are, as mentioned, few and far between – are not that great anyway. “Honest Man” is the first track I actually like, and it's track eighteen. And then we're back to the rubbish. If this was a normal album I'd be bailing now, but as there are only six tracks left and some of them are very short I'll endure it to the end, so I can rate it. It will not be a high rating.

Oh look! A hip-hop artist who a) uses his real name (well, as close as), b) doesn't rely on guest stars to pad out his album and c) releases that album with a manageable eight tracks on it! Scoring points already, Freddie my man! Great start too with “24 Karat Jesus”, “Crushed Glass” is another great one though “Andrea” is much more in the trap line of things. Yeah, I like this. I like this a lot.

First, this was very hard to track down (you would not believe how many artists are called Carnage!) and second, I must relate the comments of one person on RYM: “These songs would be ten times better without G-Eazy on them!” Oh, poor G-Eazy! Doesn't sound like he's appreciated, does it? Never mind: it's only a four-track EP, so let's get to it and see if Anthony_Gaming1 (whose other comment runs: “Best song: “Down For Me”. Worst song: the rest of them!”) was being too harsh, or has hit the nail on the head. Well I like the classical piano that underpins “Guala”, but I really have no idea which one is the Eazy one and which one likes to cause trouble, so don't ask me if our friend Anthony is right or not. Seems a pretty crap song to be honest, very misogynistic, which was always my main problem with hip-hop (though I have to be honest: most of what I've heard in this thread hasn't been like that; some has, but by no means is this attitude in the majority). I swear, if he says “Guala guala” one more time...

Yeah, this isn't much to talk about. Even with only four tracks I'm ready to bail. Let's see if it gets any better. All right, well “Buddha” has some interest about it and a nice atmosphere. Now we come to the one the venerated Anthony_Gaming1 rates as the best (only) good song on this short EP. Is it? Yeah, it kinda is, though that's not saying a lot really. Pathetically low RYM rating very much deserved, possibly over-generous actually.

The first, and to date only, Goldfrapp album I heard (their debut) I absolutely loved. Whether that will turn out to be the exception or not we will find out. First track is very boppy and catchy, second slower, kind of marching rhythm, but as ever her voice is liquid gold (no pun intended). “Tigerman” has a real sense of dark menace about it, another relatively slow one, things speed up slightly for “Become the One” and then slow to an absolute crawl for “Faux Suede Drifter” (don't ask me!) driven by some really nice laconic bass.

Generally speaking, like the debut I listened to, this seems to be mostly laidback, chillout type tracks that you would relax to or even fall asleep to; nothing too rocky, dancy or uptempo to disturb the overall chill atmosphere. And her voice suits the music perfectly, could easily lull you into the land of Nod. Tempo rises somewhat for “Everything is Never Enough”, but with very few exceptions this has got to be one of the most chill albums you will hear this year.
