This could of course turn out to be one of the best albums released this year, but going from the cover (yeah I know), her name and the American Idol link, well, let's just say if that happens I know what I'll be getting Satan for Christmas: a nice new shiny pair of ice skates.
And just like any good Irishman, TH doesn't have the slightest clue when he's being super racist.

He's justified in hating on that cover, but yes.

Don't be ridiculous. Nothing racist about it. If she wasn't involved with American Idol I wouldn't have said that. It's all about the talent show non-talent. She just happens to be black; I never mentioned anything about that. I was talking about the title of the album, bitch: Already All Ready? Yeah, really ****ing inspired.

Yeah. I meant to say the name. I see how you got confused. This from Hitler.

Those who have negative views of African-influenced names are typically racist. We see right through you.

You lying sack of smarmy dog ****. You just saw her name and figured she'd sound like Beyonce or that other black woman.

Album title: Did it for Love
Artist: Leela James
Genre: Funk/Soul
Nationality: American
Release date: March 31
Position in Discography: Sixth
Estimated Rating:

Familiar with this artist? No
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No
Average RYM Score: 3.52
Got a very strong voice here, but not one of those who shouts or roars, one of my bugbears: you have to have a good voice to begin with, you won't improve it by grunting, moaning and screaming if there's nothing there to work with. There's quite obviously something here. Good opener and “Don't Want You Back” could be destined to become a modern soul classic, though I could do without the interlude “Real Talk – Relationships”, which is basically twenty-eight seconds of, well, talk. “I Remember” soon makes you forget(!) this small blip though, and I can already see my initial rating will be increased by several points by the time I get through listening to this. “There 4 U” though, is pretty generic and boring, however it's followed by the sublime “This Day is for You”, which more than makes up for another very slight dip in quality. “Take Me” is a smouldering, sultry blues seduction, “All Over Again” a lovely piano ballad, and the album finishes strongly.

Check out more from this artist? May do
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes

Album title: Selfocracy
Artist: Loïc Nettet
Genre: Indie Pop
Nationality: Belgian
Release date: March 31
Position in Discography: Debut

Average RYM Score: 3.27
Just great: another talent show winner/runner-up, this time from the Belgian version of The Voice. Can I expect much here? Well, apparently our man represented his country in the Eurovision, so, I really don't know: that could be good, could be really bad. Don't think Belgium has ever won the competition, has it? The opener is good, very atmospheric, sounds like a female voice talking about conceit and whatnot, but then the same voice is singing on the second track, so I guess this is him. I'd say this is kind of alternating between generic pop - “Dirty” and “Mud Blood” - and some half-decent more mature stuff, like “Million Eyes”, “Whisperers” and “Wolves”. There's something there, but it seems to be being held back by some weak songs. At least he writes his own stuff, which is something. Well, co-writes.

Check out more from this artist? Probably not
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? I'm sure I'll have to
