Album title: Crystyle
Artist: CLC
Genre: Dance Pop/EDM/Trap (but not K-pop, oddly)
Nationality: Korean
Release date: January 13
Position in Discography: Fifth
Fear Factor: Low
Familiar with this artist? No
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? A bit
Check out more from this artist? No
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Unsure
Not quite sure what the difference between this and the K-pop albums I've listened to up to now is; maybe the rapping, or the harder electro-beats or whatever the **** they are, but apparently it's not K-pop. I guess there's less of the “girls having fun”, let's even call it the Giggle Factor, in this album, as if the girls here are taking themselves more seriously than the K-poppers seem to. It's okay, but with only six tracks kind of hard to form an opinion. Meh. All I can say really. I don't hate it at least. Actually scratch that: it's become quite annoying.

Album title: Gold
Artist: Jessie James Decker
Genre: Country Pop
Nationality: American
Release date: January 17 (finally moving on, thank Christ!)
Position in Discography: Third
Fear Factor: Low
Familiar with this artist? No
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? A little
Check out more from this artist? No ****ing way
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Maybe
I like my country with a harder edge but I can listen to etc etc you've heard it all before. At least this is only an EP, so five tracks is all I have to contend with. Country, especially country pop varies wildly from damn good to damn why did I bother? Which side of the fence does this fall on? Well it's a decent start so nothing bad to say as yet. Oh oh! Speaking of something bad to say! Why do country pop artists think it's EVER a good idea to put a reggae beat in their songs? I mean, what's the point? They're completely different styles of music: one is so white it almost glows, the other is basically reserved for those of a darker and far cooler disposition (witness ****ing UB40 for a definitive reason why white people do not need to go near reggae. Or the Police, come to think of it). Anyway this is pretty damn annoying and totally incongruous in the context of this genre. Oh, just to mix it up even more, we have steel guitar in there. Well, why ****ing not? I'll tell you why ****ing not....

Yeah, Miss Decker here (cool name, but other than that, pretty major fail here) seems a little confused as to what she wants to play. Other than the odd blast of steel guitar I don't see how this can really be considered country. It's just bargain basement pop, and not very good pop at that. This is actually painful. If it was more than five tracks I'd be bailing out, but I can hold out that long. Maybe. Guess you can get away with anything in the world of country pop. Hey! I see she was originally turned down by every major label in Nashville! Maybe they're not so stupid after all.

Ah, another Korean lady, and another EP. Keep 'em coming: it helps speed this process up (probably about to hit a 30-track monster next!) This is kind of soul/r&b with a sort of seventies feel, to me anyway, and it's pleasant enough. Girl can certainly sing. Is there anything memorable on it? Nah, it's boring and generic as ****. The song “Lonely Love” features the lines “Ain't good enough” in the chorus. I think that says it all for me.

Album title: Covered and Taped
Artist: Dashboard Confessional
Genre: Emo
Nationality: American
Release date: January 18
Position in Discography: Sixth EP; twelfth recording overall
Fear Factor: Low
Familiar with this artist? No but I have heard of them
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Not really
Check out more from this artist? Yes

I think I tried emo once; wasn't that convinced. Hotelier maybe? Not sure. Anyway this is yet another EP, the shortest yet at only four tracks, but it certainly kicks off nicely and seems to keep going with really nice ballads. I like this guy's voice; it's not too whiny and there's a certain rock husk to it. This is really good. Even the Justin Bieber (spit) cover can't detract from the quality here. All the tracks are covers of course, so whether this is a good representation of Dashboard Confessional or not I don't know, but it has certainly given me the urge to explore their music more.

(Homer Simpson voice) Wiley Coyote? No? Darn darn darn! So this is my introduction to the delights of Grime, is it? Well, if I'm going to have to listen to it I suppose the man who is regarded as the Godfather of Grime (hence the album title) is as good an introduction as you can get. Meh, it's not without its charm, but basically fast-paced rap against bass and drum patterns (I assume) with no real tune I can recognise (mostly) doesn't really do it for me. Also, I thought I must have heard about four tracks and looked and I was only on track two. Grrr! I'll be honest: this rapid-fire delivery, relentless as it is, is giving me a headache.

You know what? **** this: I'm not listening to seventeen tracks of this. I'm more than three in so I can't use Three Strikes, so let me introduce my new clause:
Bailing Out!

And here I go.

(Note: I got six tracks into this before I bailed)

Can't wait for the Dizzee review.

He might like the Stormzy one though, pretty much an RnB album.

He doesn't hang with R&B too much though.
