Album title: The Grinding Wheel
Artist: Overkill
Genre: Thrash Metal
Nationality: American
Release date: February 10
Position in Discography: Eighteenth
Fear Factor: Low
Familiar with this artist? Somewhat
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Yes
Average RYM Score: 3.35
Great powerful start with a long guitar riff into, but is that Brian Johnson on vocals? Love the title of the opener: “Mean, Green, Killing Machine”! Yeah, this album just kills. I'm not familiar with that much of Overkill's discography, so I'll have to take the word of reviewers that this is their best yet. You can decide for yourself. It certainly rocks though, and you can bang your head to it till your brains leak out. Now THAT's metal! “The Long Road” is a great track, but I find it funny that though he's obviously singing “Onward!” it sounds like “Awkward!” Reminds me of that South Park funnybot sketch! The title track is almost eight minutes long. Is that a record for Overkill? I feel they don't normally do longer tracks of that nature. Maybe they do. Crusher anyway. Like the whole album. Listen to it. Now. Why are you still here? Didn't I say now?

P.S. The version I listened to has a killer version of Lizzy's "Emerald" as a bonus track. Sweet.

Check out more from this artist? Absolutely
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Always

My initial feeling when this starts is annoyance. It seems like the guys (guy?) is/are trying to be funny but kind of failing. We'll see. Okay. Jesus this is awful. No more, please!

Check out more from this artist? No ****ing way
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Hip-hop? Yes. Whatever this **** is, no.

About that Overkill album... All respect to your opinion and of the general population and other reviewers and so on, but I can't comprehed why people love modern Overkill so much. To me, their last really good album is Killbox 13 from around 2003. Their truly best albums are from the late 80's to the mid 90's. Their last four albums are just a sterile bunch of dull double pedal overloaded, regurgitated old ideas with none of the variety and dynamism the band used to exhibit. Blitz can still yell, but his vocals used to be far more varied and fun. It's loud, but also largely artless.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

Yeah well as I say, I'm not that familiar with them. But this album rocks for me, anyway. Different strokes, as they say.

Bummer but I get it. It took more than a couple of listens for this one to hit me. I kept returning to it because his features are usually pretty rad.

Sorry but it was just consistently annoying and I could only get through I think four or five tracks. I honestly couldn't see that changing even if I listened to it a few more times. I usually know when something might click with me, and this doesn't seem to have that potential.

And you really should listen to more Overkill. Thrash royalty.
