TBH I wouldn't mind all that symphonic metal **** if I could listen to it in a hard vacuum.

Position in Discography: First collab
Fear Factor: High

I suppose this is popular but it's just boring me. Kind of seems to be two people going on about how great they are. Oh wait: this is hip-hop isn't it? Let the ****storm begin! Yeah, this is boring. All right, “Cookin'” is not without its charm, but none of the rest of this is making any impression on me. Mostly it seems to be the Fat one with occasional input from Remy Ma. I guess. “Money Showers” is a good song too, but I get the feeling I'm in the middle of some in-joke I don't understand. **** it. It ain't worth it. All this “Stop the ****in' music!” gets old and cliched by the time the album is finished. And speaking of being finished, so am I.

Album title: Skin Companion EP 2
Artist: Flume
Genre: Electronic
Nationality: Australian
Release date: February 17
Position in Discography: Fourth EP; sixth overall
Fear Factor: High
Familiar with this artist? No but I've heard the name
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No
Average RYM Score: 3.07
A companion to his second album Skin, this EP has only four or five tracks, depending on whether you get the digital or vinyl version. Bit of a mixed bag: a dancy number with high-pitched female vocals, then a sort of hip-hop darker deal, followed by an ambient kind of thing. Interesting. But perhaps not interesting enough to make me want to check out the album. “Depth Charge” is pretty cool, another ambient track, then “Fantastic” sounds like something out of Peter Gabriel's playbook. Nice.

Check out more from this artist? I just might

Pleasant enough. The guy has a nice voice, quite mellow. “27 Dollars” is a nice upbeat tune, and there's a nice instrumental in “Since Milford”, but generally it's quite gentle and not a little dull. The closer, and title track is pretty good, but it's a little hard to keep my attention on this. I guess that's folk for you. If you're into that, you'll probably enjoy this. Personally I like my music peppered with a little more life.

Fear Factor: High

While I wouldn't attempt to suggest I'm getting more familiar with this genre, I can separate the albums I've listened to – and the effect they've had on me – into two clear groups: one which makes me think again about dismissing the genre, gives me something interesting to listen to and surprises me, and one that just bores me. This falls into the latter camp. So far, I really just don't care. And I cared less as it went on. Not for me.

Ah, just the thing I need to blow away the fugue clouds put in my mind and ears by the last album: some good old folk metal. Growl it there for me, buddy! Love the violin and especially, of all things, the bagpipes being used here, really gets into that folky feel that some of the bands in this genre tend to sometimes miss out on. Yeah this is great stuff; power and passion. “Emma” is a great medieval style instrumental with, I think, possibly, just bagpipes? Really enjoyed this album.
